    Default DIY counterbalance putter

Who has done it? How did you do it? Is it easier to just buy a counterbalance grip?

I just made one up for a mate. Converted his Scotty Newport 2.6 35" to a 38" Dual balance.

With the Scotty it was quite easy due to the ease of getting weights for the head and the Dual Balance grips.

BUT whilst you can buy the grips easy enough, the real Scotty dual balance putters have a 50g weight in the end of the shaft that you can't purchase. So I modelled up a 3" aluminium extension piece, worked out how long the bit going down the shaft had to be to make the whole thing =50g and turned it up in the workshop. Placed it in the shaft and then installed the grip.

For the head the real Scotty dualbalances work on a 400g head. I figured adding 50g to the shaft I needed to add 50g to the head so I purchased 2x 35g weights. Currently it had 2x 10g weights...i.e. (35-10)x2 = 50g

    And whalla...

Havn't used it on a real green yet but on the putting matt it feels pretty solid!

Will see if it fixes his putting woes!

nice work - looks great. i find that 38inch length really difficult to use. would it work at 35inch?

The idea with the Scotty's is you still play them as 35". The grey section on the grip is the no go zone. You grip it below that line and it is 35", if that makes sense

Just posted this in the other thread:

Could be more what you are after. Comes in different weights and pretty affordable.

Whether you do it yourself - or pay someone like Pure Performance Golf Labs, like I did, to do it professionally for you - it's definitely worth doing. PPGL counter-balanced my Scotty with a 150-gram rod under where my hands sit at address and a 20-gram bit in the very top of the grip and it feels soooooo much better. I've used it for three rounds and my lag putting from distance has been so much more consistent and I'm making lots more putts from 1 to 3 metres. Get onto it dude.

I cut down a belly putter to 38" and used a super stroke belly grip. The grip is pretty light so I bought a couple of clevis pins of different lengths from these guys to counterweight.

    It was surprisingly straightforward really.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!
