Not much footage on the replay, seems he was stuck between 2 chipping patterns, his old steep method and the new shallow one (we have all been there!). Officially his worst Tour round ever apparently!. Tiger was surprisingly upbeat at the post round media scrum.

They're showing "highlights" of his 82 just now. It looked pretty horrid to say the least.

In his presser he said he got stuck between his old swing pattern and his new for a fair while.

    He also said

Well, it’s the pattern,” Tiger said. “I was much deeper, overall, swing-wise… with Sean (Foley). Now I’m very shallow. So that, in turn, affects the chipping. I’m not bottoming out in the same spot. It’s a different spot.

It occurred to me after watching replays of the train wreck that The Tigger may be having a go at us all. He has been known to play games. What a great way to upset the Foley camp and sow some weeds of doubt amongst the Foley stable. Who really knows what makes Tiger tick.

I'm starting to think that it is a BS act with some plan in mind.

No chance whatsoever, far too much eeeeeeeeeeego. Guys making swing changes, stuck between swings etc. He will need some time as the changes aren't minute.

I must admit, I did feel a little sorry for Woods watching him blading & duffing chips today.
It's only a matter of time before he find his groove again.

If Peppas can be a 50yo white guy then there is no reason Tigger can't become a fat white guy!!!

Can someone explain to me why Tiger changed his swing to a "shallower" profile?

I mean, why fix something when it isn't broken? Don't get it.

Longevity I presume ? As far as I know, that has been the sole reason for any/all of his swing changes.

It's Tiger Woods though so who the hell knows the truth other than Steve Williams lol...

I think he will be back.. I mean watching those highlights if I hit shots like that and only walked off with 82 I would cheer ( he looked to drop alot more than 10 in that sequence).. He wont do that every week.

i dont get how his chipping is so terrible. i mean chipping is just simple hand-eye coordination for him. it's 100% mental to be honest

well if he's thinking about two methods at once I'd say he's mentally ****ed at chipping for the minute.

Really surprised he's teeing it up again this week at the Farmers.... surely couldn't have fixed the issues yet but then he's got to trust whatever it is he thinks he's supposed to be doing!

He needs to. It's not about having it right in his backyard, it's about being able to put it into practice. It's his game instincts that need work.

I think Rocco is being an idiot, just cos someone hasn't won a major or 2 doesn't mean he can't teach. Butch Harmon who is considered one of the all time great coaches and Tiger's swing was best under him, has a total of one Professional win and played in a major once. I don't Hank Haney even played that much.

I do however agree with him that Tiger's problems are physical and not mental, so I don't think he has the yips.....

Agreed. He needs to get out there and forge it in the fires of competition as well.

Right now I am watching the replay of last year's British Open, won by Rory just in case anyone has forgotten.

With this vision, the two tourneys last weekend and last years other majors in mind, I'm seeing a mountain of evidence that suggests Tiger will not dominate the game again.

He is now an average distance guy, and doesn't drive as straight as Rory, Kaymer or Brooks Koepka even. So the rest of his game is going to need to be top class just to compete with those guys.

I think he will get it back, but that will only put him in the same boat as Phil Mickelson or Jim Furyk. Able to compete, and maybe pick up a win or two, but I don't see five more majors in him. What I wonder about though, is how much drive to compete he will have if it becomes obvious to him that he isn't number one any longer. Will he grind it out like Phil or Ernie Els are doing, or not?

To go right back to the thread title, I give him two years of full tilt effort. If he isn't at the top level by then, I reckon he might chuck it in. And if his back goes again, I think it will be goodbye.

I also agree with the thought that he needs to get back on the horse. Even if he plays badly at Torrey Pines, he needs to play serious golf. He used to thrive on the pressure, so he needs to put himself into pressure situations as often as possible.

i think Rocco makes some very valid and interesting points. Though obviously the interview was intended to be humourous, and it was.
just cos someone hasn't won a major or 2 doesn't mean he can't teach.
I don't think that was his point, I am sure Rocco understands that anybody can be a great teacher, because there are so many of them, and I cant think of any that have won majors. I think his point was more about who Tiger Woods really needs help from, and I think Trevino is a great suggestion, Player would be another, because both were extremely successful without the pure talent that Woods and Nicklaus have.
