Been shopping for new sticks and have come accross some of the late 80's classics out of Japan.
1. ryoken kawagishi model ms201.jpg kawagishi model played these at Palm Meadows Cup sorry for the late date. Worth of a mention as the TN01 are the same shape
The dunlops, mizzy and Macs all great i just liked the Mizuno short irons as the 7 - 8 rounded toe looked great depending on the grinds. The Nakajima model tn 01 also did it for me.
Got the Cobra Tour Model II's out for 9 holes practice round with 2 balls today.
Gee they've aged well as they still still feel fantastic to hit. Not harsh like I thought they might be be. Even the miss hits were no worse than what I would expect with my current AP2 712's. They are 1/2 to 1 club shorter thou. Ball height/flight is around the same. Would need trackman or like device to see spin and launch to see real difference.
Very happy with them and might just leave them in the bag for a game or two.
I used to have a set back when I was young wish I had kept them got nothing when I sold them.
I would doubt it as Norman was a Spalding contracted player from 78 - whenever he changed to cobra. May have been a set made for him for an appearance in Japan most OS players who played in JPGA events got sets of Mizuno's given. The logo's would suggest these are not custom grinds as the ms1 model was the club of the day and these are not square enough. But I have been wrong many times before as these look like great sticks.
CT, not sure how it worked but I remember Jack being a bit dismissive about McIlroy changing clubs. Said he changed depending on what country he was playing in at the time.

most OS players playing in Asia in the 80 and 90's played with local clubs like Maruman, Mizuno, Dunlop, Pro Gear etc as a players merchandise contract was generally written for their main tour epga and uspga whilst they could use who ever paid them the most in Japan. Not sure if its the same these days. Or that RMc is a club ho?
After much deliberation over the last few days I decided to add another set of irons to the stable tonight. I'll never get a new Driver at this rate
Will take a couple of weeks to get here then all will be revealed.
Gamed the Cobra Tour Model II's in comp yesterday.
Hit some great shots including a flushed 3iron all over the pin on par 3 14th into the wind.
Felt good to hit, not harsh and unforgiving. They are 1/2 a club shorter length wise but that's easy to adjust to.
Looking forward to gaming these again.
More Vintage goodness arrived today.
Set of Cobra Mild Steels 1 iron plus 3-10 iron. Unable to tell exactly what shafts are in these as they have no bands. They are True Tempers thou.
These look very similar to the Tour Model II's and were made during the same time. The Mild Steels ran from 1982-1986 where the Tour Model II's ran from 1982-1984. The muscle back runs slightly higher and cuts off to a rough finish at the very top.
Not sure when I'll get these out for a game as the Tour Model II's are going so well atm. The grips are a bit crusty and need to be changed.
