The top flite blades US version of 84 - 87 same as Norman's set were mint! Thin as edge and top line, not much bigger than a match box.
Got a set of mizuno pro original in the shed the 87 model a little square compared to many of the classic irons going!

There was a place in the '80's in Centre rd i think, that used to do the classic club thing, went once there were racks of old hogans and Mac Gregors including the Tommy Armours

Cheers mate. I have quite a collection now and keep adding to it by doing up the old neglected bats. Its a labour of love.

Geoff Flanagans "Hole-in-one" golf shop was in Centre Rd. Loads of really cool old stuff. Bill Edgar from Comm used to work there most days before he passed away. I bought a few sets there before they closed down.

Yes I remember Flanagans but i think there was another one behind the shops in the main strip. it was a while ago now though.

Might give the resto wood thing a try.

I have a set of MacGregor Gold Bears, I am told they were very popular in the late 60s. Really must take them for a run, and I need to organise a Qld Retro day at a suitable course.

I also have PGF 8805? putter, which is a licensed version of a Ping, that looks very similar to Jack's Anser. It has the same slot and was my very first putter.

Wasn't playing back then, though I did start out with a set of Wilson Staff blades from that era that turned out to be quite sought after so sold them for 5x what I paid for them

A set of irons that I liked heaps, (and kept for 10+ years), were the 1996 Lynx Black Cats, the ones with the plastic polymer insert in the cavity and the .400 steel 'Flare' shafts that were irreplaceable as no-one made them a short time later!

Norman played a custom set of Spalding "Tour Edition" irons in the mid/late 80's (the bird on the ball model ) but always played Macgregor wedges. Tiny litle blades that he used to great effect.

I started playing golf at 17 using a borrowed set of macgregor blades not sure if they were the muirfield blades but they were hard to hit for a beginner. The next 10 years I went through various sets of cavity backs eye 2's, 845's, lynx paralax etc which werent really classics. I have a small headed Macgregor 1 wood in the shed which I picked up about 10 years ago was mint until I put a sky mark on it Recently I have had 3 sets of mp33's but they would have been late 90s to early 00s great irons.

I remember a mate of mine getting a set of these in high school (so would've been 1991/1992 I reckon). Wished I had the cash to get a set, they were a sweet set of irons.
The 845's fit the brief. They came out in 1988 and ran all the way through to 1998.
At a rough guessimate nearly 30% of the single figure golfers I was playing with and against in Riverland pennants were gaming these a year after release. I jumped on the band wagon in 89. I used these irons for more years than any other sticks I've owned.

They were like the poor man's Ping Eye 2's. Pings were near double the price of most other clubs if memory serves me correct.

I'm still using my grandfathers Fred Bolger putter which I think dates from the 1940s. I posted some pics of it on here a while back but damned if I can find them on my computer ... So I'll have to take some new ones for this thread.

Love putting with it, have mountains of confidence with it.

Im going out on a limb here and saying these are a stock au version! I recall the club looking different from above. I regripped Norman's 5 & 7 irons at the 87 Vic Open but I have lost lots of brain cells since then so who knows!

On one of the recent secret in the dirt videos, Steve Elkington said he has only used 3 different models of irons in 28 years. And I think all three were a titleist blade. That's pretty amazing that someone who can have whatever he wants will stick to the same model for so long

These look more the clubs! I recall the face being only marginally bigger than the ball. That said I dont know if they fit here as only the great man could use them.

Fair call MTB not many here have mentioned the Titty blades of the 80's. Maybe because they where so bloody expensive compared to others. The little muscle back and thin top line made these a players choice as not many others could afford the 2k+.

These are the one of two sets from the mid 80's only ever recall US based tour players with them. They are similar to the Mirua's TB imho! No wonder the Elk played them for ever.

If you look at the Titleist weblink below, you can see that they didn't release many new models during the 80's and 90's.

    http://www.titleist.com/previous-mod...s/default.aspx

Elk won the 95 PGA with this model, and had probably played it for more than 10 years.

Yes they were the ones Norman used I knew they had different writing on them, one of the Vic opens at yarra I was watching hit wedges to Williams who was catching them in his towel he didn't have to move once.

At the same tournament Norman had a hit of Gales Maxflis on the range, never seen that before.

CT what was the set of dunlops David graham used at the Heath when you were there, He gave them to the prick of a pro there at the time who promptly put them in the shop at 2k. Circa '87. Graham then used Hogan PC's for the rest of the tourney
