And, hypothetically, are we counting putts where the hypothetical player's previous putt took it off the green?

Nup. Putts begin from on the green

So I can reset the count if my putt goes off the green again, for example, due to a massive slope? Hypothetically.

Had one on the 13th a few weeks ago. Bought a new putter while waiting for drinks after the round.

    No.

You start from on the green they all count. You start from off the green and the count doesn't start until your on.
It becomes a bit grey if you knock the first one off and it rolls a long way down a slope and have to chip it back. Have done that once at Blackwood in a Vardon after they double cut the greens after the first 18 while we had lunch. No greens have come close to this pace since.

What if you hit a putt off the green into a bunker? Are you counting the sand shot as a putt?

You don't reset, the count continues when you're back on.

Not any more. I'm on the counterbalance train. A club length might still be too far.

4bbb Matchplay... A white goth looking Oz golfer (names withheld)

Opponents out of the hole and myself the only player without a shot on the par 5 could only bogey for a 6-1...

Partner on green for 3, needed a 3 putt for the win...

    Halved hole.
Why exactly do I need to answer to you?

Yep had two last Saturday and a few 3 putts for a 47 on the front 9. Could not see a straight line, was aiming everything well out to the right of the hole. If the ball dropped it had to be a fluke or a mishit. Made an adjustment on the 10th by guessing how much to aim left. It was a strange feeling aiming everything well to the left and trusting it, but it worked. Played the back nine without a three or four putt and shot 12 strokes less than the front nine.

Thank God (piss off Blakey), I can stop scanning the Obituaries, for a while anyway!

Hi Ray, good to see you are still around!

Hey Dave, I'm still vertical, well some of the time. How is it at Redland Bay? Been meaning to visit Reddy for a game but things keep popping up.

Good to hear Ray. I am still battling along, trying to rebuilding the swing to something more reliable. Would love to catch up for a round one day somewhere around the place.

Just the one today. I don't think I had a 3 though, unless you count the 3 that then proceeded to 4, so that's a positive, right??

    Checking in for today.
4 stab from 4 foot. Each putt caught part of the hole finishing a foot closer each time.
Hole was looking like a thimble on the 3rd and 4th.
