    Default The Dunes course guide

    The Dunes course guide.

1 - Don't cut the corner too much unless you are a serious bomber. There are some fairway bunkers on the back slope of the dune that you can't see from the tee. There are some trees to aim at. Better to be a bit long than short at the green.

2 - Up the hill a fair way. I reckon right side of the fairway is your best bet.

3 - Long is OK as is a club short or so. Left is horrible and right is diabolical.

4 - If the rough is not ankle high then go right and long as far as you can. It is easier to hold the green from down there even if you can't see it. Otherwise you risk having a sword fight with this very shallow green.

5 - There is a massive amount of room here beyond the dune. Hit it over the white stone then make your way to the green from there.

6 - Almost every slope feeds it to the left hand side of this green. Short, right or left all end up heading to the same area.

7 - Go left to centre with your drive. There is a bunker hidden behind the dune on the right that feeds from a long way off. Then position your attack of the green from the right.

8 - I plan to go right side with my drive I think. I have no strong memories of this hole.

9 - Aim a little left of the gnarled old tree. Long right is a not a bad place to miss.

10 - A bold strong drive over the corner can feed a long way down leaving a little flick onto the green. You can see more the further right you go if you can't get over the hill. Long is the place to miss with the big punch bowl.

11 - I have no memory of this hole. I think just pick your length for your second. I remember now. Taking on the right side bunker up on the hill is a fool's play. Go left short of the bunker or left edge of the green with your drive. It's pretty short. There just isn't any fairway hiding on the right behind that dune with the pot in it so don't try to take that line on.

12 - I recommend not treating this as a potential 2 shotter. If you can get straight up the hill as far as you can then you play your second without having to go over the waste land on the corner. NOTHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN IF YOU END UP IN THE WASTELAND.

13 - A nice mid/long iron in but get your length correct as finding a ball up on the hill on the left is tough. No good place to miss this green that I can remember.

14 - Don't miss the fairway right and the inside corner miss is no picnic either. Green is perched up pretty high but will collect a lot of shots to the putting surface.

15 - New 15 is like hitting into a bath tub. Left or right makes little difference unless you go too far right and into the longest bunker in the world.

16 - It's a big hit to go over the bunkers on the left. Get as close as you can and then come in down the left if possible.

17 - Very tough green to hold. Long shot onto a plateau green. Hit it well.

18 - Drive down the left for the easiest line in. Not usually a long iron in no matter where you are playing your second. Go up and use the ampitheatre to hold on.

Bruce I have read that down the 7th is the best play on the 4th (as you have suggested) due to the shape of the green.

Is this fairly doable? Or will the Rough or Bunkers on 7 be a major sticking point to this strategy?
Why exactly do I need to answer to you?

Err, isn't there a big scrubby drop off at the back of the green?

So for 3, sounds like you either hit the green off the tee or you wipe it and move on.

    Easy as!

There is a little bit of a bowl at the back to help catch things. If you go 20m long then you are certainly as dead as if you missed right.

You might end up in the hidden bunker on the 7th if you aren't careful but a perfectly valid strategy. Probably an 8I from the 7th fairway to a far left pin. If you can't one hop stop your ball then the green is almost unholdable from straight down the hole.

Thanks for that Bruce. Have looked and read a bit on that hole and it certainly sounds like a bitch of a green if coming from the 4th fwy

Thanks for the guide, Bruce. I have played it before, but I really can't remember much from it.

Ok I am using valuable work time to do up a guide for this. Anyone have the indexes of the holes?

Hold off, Petey. Proof read this instead and add those indexes.

OK not sure on length and indexes for 15 and 16. OOB golf has 15 as index 1 and 16 as 15. I suspect this has swapped with the new routings. Can anyone confirm this?
