Default Comp Cancelled due to heat

With 44 deg forecast for tomorrow our club has cancelled both the morning and afternoon comps. First time I've heard of our club doing so due to heat.

Speaking to a guy at work his club has stated that if the temp gets over 40 deg that they will close the course even mid round

Are we now living in a nanny state or is this just common sense?

I personally wouldn't play in that sort of heat if i could avoid it but I think closing the course is ridiculous.

Perhaps linked to insurance premiums somehow ionno?

I'll be playing cricket in it tomorrow. And by playing I mean scoring and fielding.

I guess golf clubs have older blokes to consider but **** me you make your own decisions surely.

Default Comp Cancelled due to heat

    Yep that's soft as.
I would want a pretty good explanation as to why that is the case.

Never too hot and never too wet to play golf.

And forecast has been revised to 41* according to weather zone

Played in some shockers here in the December games pre xmas break, 38-40 degree jobs. We used to play comp tennis around xmas as well. Golf just ain't so hard after that.

Admittedly it never quite hit 44, what a stinker.

It won't be too bad, I'm down by the river. As everyone says it is the humidity that really kills you. The worst day (aside from a post Australia Day game which I discount) the worse day I ever experienced was on an oval down in a swampy area about 36 and 70% humidity. Mmm cramp.

I played here (Woodford, QLD) last Saturday it got to 42 degrees, it wasn't great fun, but I survived, I think I consumed about 3-3.5 litres of H2O during the round.

Remember playing at Shenton Park when it was 43. I had kept in juniors in the morning and was not pleased when we lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Kept something like 130 overs or something.

Yep, same down my way Cobra. Hat, sunscreen, sleeves (I don't care how 'gay' they look) plenty of water and it was fine. Hot, but fine.

I still remember one of our young keepers going down like he'd been shot during presentations. His legs just cramped right up and he went down with a cry of agony. Couldn't bend either leg for ages poor kid.

I handle heat better than cold, I'd play golf tomorrow if it was previously arranged. Did they cancel the comp because they thought too many people would pull out? Do you need a certain number/percentage of members participating to make a comp official?

RF's canned the arvo comp but morning fixtures are all go. The course is still open for social play though....go figure.
I just wonder if there is a directive in their insurance policies particularly if the club has a lot of older members as we do at RF....the 7th has claimed a few lives in the past and has been duly labeled 'The Widow Maker' so this could be we're the action is tomorrow.

For me....if it's good enough to work in it, then it's certainly good enough to play golf in it too.

40+ means I take a cart. Need to save something for Sunday. Cancelling comps? Ghey. Whoever wishes to brave the elements should be allowed to.

No one cancelled golf when it was 2am and -20 and we wanted to play glow in the dark golf after the pub back in Canada.
