I just drove past the golf club and the thermometer read 46 degrees.
The car read 43 on the drive home... eek!

Following up on this, the Club implemented the Heat Policy a number of years ago.

Our Wednesday comp was cancelled with a predicted 41 degrees. Social play is still allowed.

Carts, amazingly, were also still allowed, despite the course not having cart paths from holes 6-9 and 14 to 18. I suspect the fragile cool climate grasses we have will end up with burn marks by the end of the week.

Do other clubs ban carts on hot days, or can comps for days over 40?

We ban carts when it’s too wet, not too dry

This was a decision made long before Kev became a Committee Member, and its based on a Golf Australia recommendation.

We had two members have significant heat stress because they didn't drink enough water during a previous heatwave, and there were concerns on liability. There has been a push from some of the membership to review the policy, but we are a course with minimal shade, just three water points and a long walk.

Interestingly, I have spoken to a mate from another Canberra club which implemented the same policy 3 or 4 years ago, and they rescinded it this week, putting all liability back on the members

Water points is interesting. I can only think of one out on course whereas Nudgee had one every couple of holes

Not that I am a member now but 2 years ago they changed the hot weather comp.
It is up to the individual now if they wish to play in the comp if over 36 degrees. Not compulsory. So essentially there is still a comp.

Its play on @ Tanunda in the heat, most play crack of dawn, and the comp field is finished by noon

this is when I get really cranky when I have a slow player in our group, particularly later in the round when its 35+, last week we played as a 3ball (I blocked out the 4th spot) and one of my playing partners was taking 45-60 seconds per shot.

Hard to get stroppy with him, a 70+ year old with a heart of gold, I started to pester on 17, he said 'do you need to be somewhere?' im like 'its 35 degrees and we are a 3 ball with a 4ball on our tail'
