Check the calorie content in coke Zero. I think you'll be fine.
Why exactly do I need to answer to you?

Exactly the same weight this morning; last nights 3km walk was pointless.

Maybe it would be better if the walk wasn't to get Chinese for dinner, and if I hadn't grabbed a large chips and coke for the walk back?

Burn more calories than you consume. Exercise more, eat less crap.

    This.

Use an app such as MyFitnessPal to track how much you consume/ burn. Easy peasy.

I think the extra time taken by walking should mean calories burnt are similar*

*could be wrong. I've been wrong before.

I'm not interested in calories. I posted a few posts back that I'm looking to consume nothing processed. Soft drink = out. For now at least.

That's what I thought too. Your body is moving the same distance so probably uses the same (or very similar) amount of energy. Running is obviously better for cardio fitness, it'll get your heart beating and blood pumping faster (it's also harder on your joints).

About the same. You are doing the same work essentially, but you also burn calories for every litre of oxygen you burn so running is probably better but not as much as you think.

Obviously you can burn more calories an hour running.

How can I do this...don't mind a run, have gym gear in garage but still want to eat the odd bit of crap and a few beers.

    Advice please.
Setting targets through an app like myfitnesspal can help. What I usually find the most startling when first using the app is just how much I was consuming. It can be a bit scary. The simple fact is we don't need any where near as much food as we end up eating and drinking.

Get up early and walk every day. If you wanna try running maybe try walk/running so you don't stress your old bones. But you don't have to run to lose weight - walking will do it fine. But you have to look at the other stuff. You can't really do it by exercise alone. Buy a set of scales, even cheapies. I do believe more in the mirror, but you do need to know how things are going. Don't have to weigh every day, but honestly when I'm trying to lose weight I do. Every day, in the morning, after loo visit and before eating. Naked. You'll have days when you do go up, but over the space of a week it should be moving down.

It actually takes a bit of commitment to lose say 1kg a week. Gotta stop grazing on the food. Get a water bottle and sip during the whole day. Will help keep you feeling full. Don't eat until you're stuffed. You've eaten way too much. Drop the portion sizes of your meals. That's one of the easiest things you can do and can make a big difference, and no going back for seconds. If you try tracking it, it's quite amazing how much food you can actually get away with eating and still be under the average daily allowance and be dropping weight. And you can have a bit of crap, as long as the other stuff is good. Softdrink (my achillies heel, along with chocolate) is the devil.

I don't think there's one of us here that doesn't know what they need to do to lose weight. We all know the right and wrong foods, exercise etc. There's no mystery. It's just having the willpower to do it. I usually don't, and overtrain my arse off sometimes to counter my indulgences and get injured.

Right now I weigh 21kg's more than I did at 20. I can't even imagine how I could get to that weight again, let alone how I weighed that little.

Soft drink is the biggest calorie waste out there. Full strength is the injecting sugar. Have one with a meal, you are basically eating twice as much. Diet contains so many shit chemicals that the body isn't designed to break down.

I know lots that are coke zero/diet drinkers. I can't stand the taste of diet drinks - they try and tell me they taste the same but they're full of it. Honestly, if I could stomach the taste I'd probably drink them, but I just try and substitute water. That's why I try and keep a water bottle with me and just sip all day long. Then you tend to feel less like needing another drink. I try and drink more tea now days, or have the odd cordial. I reckon sipping water all day long helps with the grazing. If you must graze keep some almonds around or something. At least they're healthier fats. Still don't go 'nuts' on them.

I've been on lite'n'easy with the missus since about May last year. I've lost about 20kg and she's lost about 16kg. It costs a bit, but it is time saved in not shopping, not having junk food. With alcohol I am certainly drinking more booze as I am now out socialising at golf, I drink a fair bit of soda water as my doctor says you feel more full than just by drinking water and I reckon this is true. With my missus she has made 0 changes she can think of, it is just set food that makes it easy for us.

We still buy the occasional ice-cream from maccas and have pizza friends and stuff like that, it is just less shit and less often.

My garmin records shows the same calories burned for a 5k slow jog today (35 minutes) and my 5k race yesterday (19 minutes).

Interestingly enough my TomTom has a 10km run burning the same calories as a 10km (walked) round of golf.

That is interesting. I would have guessed that the golf would actually be slightly more due to the extra time taken (close to 100cal per hour just to breathe, pump blood etc.).

I'd guess it doesn't take that into account at all.

It's worth pointing out that the calorie calculations are potentially wildly inaccurate anyway. I trialled a number of iPhone apps and they would all give different results.

For the purpose of weightloss I ended up settling on the app that gave the lowest result to keep track of what I was doing.

I needed a Sunday arvo kick, that I can usually get from a can/bottle of coke.

A berocca in a 700ml cycling/sports bottle seems to have hit the spot.
