Default The Uncivil War Pt II - Fri 7th Feb '14 - RM West

Well, we are exactly 18 days from teeing it up and duking it out again for the Uncivil War. If you don't know already this is being played on the prestigious turf of Royal Melbourne's West course, the nations number 1 sporting complex.

It has been decided by last years captains that a tradition shall start of "passing on the armband" to a new captain, selected by the previous years captain (don't worry future Confederate captain, you will get a new armband, not my puked on one from last year! ).

    Let the war begin (again!).

Funny, I think the Confederates were victorious last year????? Makes the Union scum pretty bad if we fall to pieces and still win..........

Winning the first skirmish does not win the war. A few scouts having a go at each other does not count.

Bringing the Artillery this year, die Confederate scumbuckets.

Is this being played off the back markers like Royal Pines? If so, I'm going to spew.

Even the Composite track is only 6340m off the tips. You've got nothing to worry about with length Andy. The West course is 6033m from the plates.

Basically last year it was QLD as the Northern state V VIC, ACT and Tas as the Southern. It just worked out really well.

This year will essentially be the Northern states of QLD and NSW vs the Southern States of VIC, ACT, TAS and WA.

Total length isn't my concern. If the hazards are out of range off the tee like Royal Pines, it will be a borefest.

Driving areas are actually fairly wide and innocuous. It's about position on the fairways as you just cannot miss around the greens.
Why exactly do I need to answer to you?

    This.

Most fairways are 30m wide. But you want to be in the ideal 5m. Otherwise your job just got 100% harder.

This xmas my family did an opshop secret santa. I got a book called Australia's Greatest Golf Courses or somesuch from 1990.

Reading about RMWest, and woodlands etc it seems that accuracy is vital. Not sure if the courses remain the same as 1990 (i know RQ has changed significantly) but it does make for an interesting week away. Woodlands comments about tiny greens that missing is death, and the course record being 68 is kinda scary.

I think this will suit me - I have a terrible short game in favourable circumstances, so I probably won't drop any more shots than I usually do.
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!
