Not a fan of Breitling either, overpriced considering they use ETA movements which are only about $200 a pop for the basic ones. They've finally started to manufacture in-house movements recently though so maybe my opinion of them will change in the future.

The IWC Ingenieur is probably the most bargain basement IWC you'll find. Some used models can probably be found for around $4k-$5k

Awesome - nothing beats the feeling that you get when you splurge your hard-earned savings on a quality horological piece.

Let us know what you end up deciding on!

OK this didn't end up happening last year.

This year it is happening. Happy birthday to me.

Just gotta pick a watch still... tossing up a second hand rolex, or an IWC. But still need to get to a watch dealer to get a good look at them...

I would love a Breitling Navatimer. Love the shape, style and branding of breitling. One day I will own one!

Where is the best place to buy second hand, but genuine decent watches at a fair price?

Not too excited about the prospect of paying $10,000 for a breitling new when I eventually buy one.

Many years ago, I got given a Breitling as a bonus from work. It has ended up not being a bonus and costing me money as I had to pay the tax on it in the UK, and I lost at some point in my move to Aus.

It wasn't one of the uber-expensive ones, but I wasn't impressed with the quality of it - bits of the bezel around the face broke off, and when it was sent back to Breitling to be replaced, it came back with a slightly different one, which made it look shit (and would have affected the resale value, if I hadn't lost it).

Not sure I'd be rushing to get one again, even if I did win the lottery

I've been looking at visiting Sydney vintage watches in the city at some point. Someone recommended them to me...

I have one with a better dial, but 36mm watches arent very popular these days.

After many months/years of talk, I plan on heading into SVW on Wednesday after I finish enrolling at uni and having a look at a few.

Been tossing up between Omegas and Rolexes basically. Should be good!

Geez mate it looks like this has been a long journey for you ! ;-P

I have a few pieces - a Breitling Superocean Abyss44, Omega Seamaster Chrono, Omega Aqua Terra DayDate, Raymond Weil DonGiovanni, plus about another 6 or so much cheaper watches i just liked the look of.

Something you might like to try and keep an eye out for is a Tudor. These are made by Rolex and are great pieces at a slightly lower price point than a Rollie. But a Tudor will get you the "knowing nod" from a watch aficionado.....

Yeah, had a few things happen in the last little while that have meant this has been put off.
