**** you all whinge A LOT!!!!
**** you all whinge A LOT!!!!
Sometimes when I think of you I touch myself..........
Haven't seen that happen at my club this year.
Take our medal rounds this year all won by B and C graders. In fact the last 4 medal rounds were won by two players each one backed it up the following month. I wouldn't call/class either as a sandbagger or pot hunter but what was interesting is they were able to play off the same handicap and do it again under the current system. Under the old system they would have been slashed and not able to repeat the same low score.
Hell only this last Saturday I shot 1 over 74 off a 4 handicap and could only manage to run 5th in the monthly medal. I had the best nett in A grade and wasn't in the hunt against the field.
I read some where last year that stated when the system changed to the current one that the single figure guys tend to be off 1-2 lower than previous and at the higher end of the scale the C & D graders tend to be of 2-4 more than the old scale. Maybe there is something in that on why when all grades are competing against each other on nett the A graders seem to have little chance of being the best nett on the day.
Maybe different equations for working the average to give you a handicap could be done according to grade as some sort of balancer.
You should look at me. One week I play to 10 the next week it can be anywhere from 25 upwards. When I drop a flagged round off, sometimes I go out a whole shot.
Hey, let's pop some Viagras and issue tickets with raging, mega-huge boners.

Dont worry my handicap changes hole to hole. Some holes I play like a low teen handicapper some like an 18-20 and then alot at 36+.

As much as it would be nice to be able to tighten the A Grade hcp spread, even at a 12 cut off at our club that only encompasses about 25% of the field. If you moved the cut off to 10, that would cut our A grade almost in half.
We have the opposite problem. I think at our club champs recently we had about 20 B graders in the field (so they pretty much all qualified for either scratch or nett) but lots of A and C graders.
A mate has suggested we move the grades and make A grade 0-9 or 0-10 and B grade 11-19 and C grade 20+. I think it's a good idea - no doubt some people would resist out of vanity but for the most part I think it's the way to go.
Yep. Our A grade is now 14 or 15 for that reason.. I won A grade last week, the high markers were furious.
I Dont have a problem with that. There is no advantage to a low handicap. If I didnt practice or get better then they just give me a higher handicap.
There is no reward for playing better anymore. I may as well just blow out to 8 and win 6 comps a year.
Exactly.
We do and you are.
This is our club. I have to go red to win a Saturday comp. Hence why I haven't won any since grand final day LAST year (because it was a shitty wet and windy day and the field only had 30 players).
Our A grade winners are dominated by guys who usually play off 4/5 who have slipped out to 7/8 or 7/8 markers who have slipped out to 10/11.
I'm jack of it.
How many comps a year do you think you should win? How many A graders in a regular sat comp?
It has been years since I have won a comp.

Our A grade goes to 14, B grade is 15 to about 20, C grade is 21 to whatever the max is ( I don't even know).
Every A grade comp is won by someone off 13 or 14.

And I forgot, I did win a Monthly Mug this year, first win in ages, with a played to 9 off 15. Funnily enough when I went out to anchor I never looked like winning a thing.
Pretty sure B Grade at Reddy Bay is the biggest of the fields. Full of blokes that can play low one week and crap the next.

Personally, regardless of field size, a grade should never be above 12, and I do think it should be single figures. And I think most comps should have a gross prize, and on significant days it should be of an equal level as the net prizes.
There should be regular recognition of those who've put the effort in to shoot low, and no amount of natural ability will get you there without hard work. I've always thought that, for many years now at least.

It's just as hard for us 11 markers. I had 40 points on Saturday, and still finished fourth behind 11, 10 and 12 markers.
But scratch winner won $30 with a 38 net. (Admitted his 6 under off +4 was 13 shots ahead of me.)
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.
I feel your pain Lefty.
I went Red (-1) for the first time ever in competition 3 weeks ago off 4 and still wasn't good enough to win the nett on the day. Got done by a 32 handicap breaking the ton for the first time.
I haven't seen many scores in our A grade go a nett 4 better than par. There has been the odd one, but it's not a common occurrence like it is in B and C grade. Our A grade goes out to 12.
How many do you get playing on a Saturday? What's your clubs prize payout run down?
Ours is:
Competitors 45-60
Comp fee = $5
Best score for the day all Grades = Daily sponsors prize (no idea what it's worth never won one).
Best A Grade score = $15 Bar Voucher
Best B Grade score = $15 Bar Voucher
Best C Grade score = $15 Bar Voucher
Ball run down on score regardless of grade
NTP's x3
Ball for birdie on the daily nominated birdie hole.
Ball for least putts in stroke rounds per grade.
Ball for most hit fairways in stableford or par rounds.
2 doz eggs for worst score on day (must be present to collect)
Meat tray draw (must be present to collect)
Forgot to mention all scores are nett, par or stableford only.
Club Champs and Open are are the only comps that pay gross.
