Surely 5 is too much? What say you?

Hell yes it is. It has been rather dry over here over the last few months. So handicap that blew out over wet times are not exactly relevant any more. They make the anchor look stupid.

    2 shots.
    3 at a stretch.

Guys like Shadesy manipulate the system too much with 5 shots.

Ditch the anchor and tighten up the cap formula.

Or ditch caps altogether. I still enjoyed racing mountain bikes when I was no chance of winning, I don't see why golf should be different to other sports and have a crutch for those that are crap and/or don't want to put the effort in.

I think 5 is good especially when 8 of 20 rounds are flagged. I think it should be 9 of the 20.....

Keep the anchor at 5 for right-handers and make it 2 for left-handers.

I still favour only best 5 out of last 20 cards to count and ditch the 'Bonus of Excellence' factor.

What about in my case, where I've been issued my old hc from 5 years ago and anchored there. My last game at or under my hc was in March 2008. And I only have 2 rounds under what would be my max hc of 18, both of those in 2008. My opening 3 rounds since starting again have been 22, 20 and 27 over, but my hc won't change much cause shortly 7 of my 8 rounds will be in a row and it's gonna take a few months to start getting into those.

Luckily for me it's the golf I enjoy, and personal improvement and I know my hc is not representative of where I am so it means little to me. But I bet my circumstances would annoy some people who would consider it unfair.

All you have to do is contact your club and they will adjust your handicap for you. The handicapper will probably go halfway between what you are shooting now and what you use to shoot.

    Easy fix.

    4 is more than enough

Why would they do that? They should be protecting the rest of the field, rather than making one person feel better.

I think under the old hc system, playing badly every week for a year would drop you by 5 shots. Sounds fair to me.

The anchor concept is a joke.

I say get rid of the anchor completely. It's rubbish anyway. I'd hazard a guess that the majority of people would not be anchored or even close to it. Playing pre and post pregnancy and not playing anywhere near consistently and my handicap is only 2 shots above my anchor.

3 at absolute most. 5 still allows the burglars to run absolute riot.

Mystical burglars that win every comp. the only reason there is an anchor is because of people that do not understand a handicapping system and think that everyone is a cheat.

We're not talking about every comp, we're talking about the big ones.

Holden Scrambles, Club 4B champs, district championships, tournaments.

Then they sandbag their way back to the next one. Win that. Rinse and repeat.

We've got pennant players playing the Kwinana Cup off 5. Frigging bandits! Shouldn't be allowed.

Fortunately the Kwinana Cup isn't a handicap match play event.
