I am looking to have a green installed once we finish construction on our new pool and deck area. The pool builders have installed a few before so are happy to include as part of the cleanup. I should be able to get about 60sqm of green plus a chipping area and can hit full shots across the water.

I'm still thinking about a putting green for my backyard, I just do things in little steps, when I have time.

Here's a photo of a little mockup that I've just done. I could be convinced to make it more of a kidney shape than an L, and the pins are just a rough guess, without considering where I might put the fringe grass. I've measured it out to be about 20 square metres in the L formation. The area without the grass is about 15 (6.4m x 2.3m).

From what I've been told, they aren't doing installation jobs in Brisbane, and I don't want a DIY kit, but I'll contact them and see how I go.

Andy, looks like you have plenty of room.
Id go as big as you and the budget allows, you wont regret it later....

Room isn't an issue; it's more that I don't want to take up too much of the backyard.

    Why's that?
Its bloody maintenance free, and if you have it level with the original grass it will be fine....
    Wish mine was bigger....

How do you think the surface would hold up with a dog that continually runs at full sprint across it? The moron runs back and forth from one side gate around the house to another side gate any time there is movement out the front. The hose covers it a bit, but you can see a groove mark in the bottom left that the dog has worn.

    Will hold up fine.
My WHOLE backyard is the green and the dog lives out there and no issues.

A bloke I know at my club (lives over in Georges Hall/Revesby, I think), did a DIY of these - an artificial grass (not sure what type or where from) 5m x 5m putting green in his back yard with a couple of holes and I think with some subtle undulations and the whole thing cost him around $4K. He said it was a pain in the arse laying the foundations (road base etc), but reckons he's pretty happy with it...

Agreed. Mines been copping bat sh*t, bird sh*t and the dog and it's fine. Firm bristled broom and a hose gets it off. Pretty hard wearing.

My green has been roughly marked out now, looking like about 40sqm of green plus a chipping area and a full practise tee where I can hit balls out over the water, just need to get the new pool tiled next week and some decking done and we can start the green, hopefully will be ready by mid June

I've had some of the road base and sand base wash away so will need to lift and remediate to remove some ripples that appeared

A little disappointing but we did get some unexpectantly heavy rain earlier in the year which caused some backyard flooding.

Just found the old photo of mine. After 2 years, I probably only use it once a month, but its nice to muck around for five minutes waiting for the bbq to heat up!

Mine I got at a mates rates deal as part of a wider landscaping project he did in the backyard.

Grass was about $1800 and labour another grand or so. Cups were $80 for 5 off ebay.

I have 10m of chipping/putting surface, and two 1m longer grass collars either end.

    Thanks Simmsy for your support

Could be related to a cracked drainage pipe.

    Sigh. Potential big job.

Only rains here twice a year. Won't have to worry about it.
