Glenn Whittle, who runs The Sydney Putting Studio at The Ridge Golf Course, has kindly donated a putting assessment to be thrown in to the prize pool at the champs. The knowledge Glenn has and the technology he uses makes this a really good golfers prize. I think Stuartd147 and Dangals have had the pleasure of visiting him before.

    See link-:
    http://www.theridgegolf.com.au/clubf...ng_studio.html

I just got back from a putting assessment. Am now looking at a couple of spec changes on the putter. Will give me a chance to consider a new putter while not playing at the moment.

Pretty good. He watched me on the putting green for a bit then I putted on the mat with the machine picking up what I'm doing with the stroke and club head. He demonstrated with the use of lasers how I wasn't keeping the face square to the putting path through the stroke.

Not a huge issue but it explains some of the misses I have when I pull it left. The face opens too much to the path and I try to over correct and pull it left. Very annoying on those 4 footers.

I putt with a 34.5" two ball. I sold all my putters as I liked this one and knew it was mostly me.

So, the outcome of today was the length and loft of my putter is correct for me but I need the shaft to be a couple of degrees more upright, and he believes a center shafted will help me with the path. He also proved that I was more inside the ball than I should be. I thought I was over the ball or just inside but I was well inside with the toe up slightly.

He gave me the specs I need for my putter.

Overall it was well worth it for peace of mind for such an important part of the game.

Will be a good prize for whoever gets it in the end.

What does a session like that cost for those that won't be playing (me)

I am settled on my number 9 shape, but wouldn't mind getting the length and lie sorted.

Both. Although he did say that if you purchase one of his milled putters the process is more involved at the testing stage before settling on the final specs before production. Something to do with comparing minute spec changes.

Mate of mine used to get coaching from Glen Whittle back in the day and always spoke highly of him; I might look into this.

I went to Glen last year and did the whole bit and got a putter made. Glen and the process is very thorough and great fun, I did learn a lot about my putting (how bad it was) and he fitted me out with a "studio like" putter which was 33" long, the right loft/etc and a heavy 380g head to help me slow my tempo and keep on line. The putter head is beautiful. All up I spend $420.

Was it good value??? For the advice and lesson it was, but I struggled with the putter's overall weight and the feel, and the sweet spot seems the size of a pea. It takes a REAL LOT for me to complain about anything, however, the putter head started to get rust spots on it so I contacted Glen about it and emails went round and round in circles between him, me and his putter manufacturer to the point I gave up and stopped communicating. The manufacturer said it was impossible until I sent him photos, still no responsibility taken.

Glen is a great guy and knows his stuff. The testing/training gear he has is fantastic and I highly recommend you avail yourself of this process. I have 4-5 mates including one of our pro's who have been through the same process with no issues, maybe I am just unlucky.

As I say, I don't like to complain, however since you (Titty) are effectively asking me a direct question I feel I should respond honestly. (Sorry Glen)

I now use an old 2nd hand Rossa centre shaft with an oversized grip and have never putted better.

Ive seen Stu's putter and rolled it several times.
I agree with Stu, its heavy, bloody heavy!
Also seen the rust spots, not great imo, and the maker should have sorted it out?

Are they Aussie made putters, completely custom?

Ie do they mill the head shape and weight custom for each customer?

they are Aussie made but they have a small collection of styles to pick from - none of which I liked hence why I went with a Lajosi instead. With Kari you have the final say in everything from style to colour etc...

Other than that I confirm what both Matty and Stu have said about Glenn and the whole process - very worthwhile.
