    Default Hobart golf courses

Needing help, looking at joining another course.
After one with good facilities and good members.
Tossing up between Royal Hobart, Tasmania or maybe even Kingston. Thoughts ??

Royal has the best facilities by far i'd have thought. Kingstons are improving.
    Tassie has the best layout.

    Default Hobart golf courses

Tassie seem to have good members and good staff - made us feel very welcome when we played there a few months back. Probably better facilities than KB. But KB is a great little course too.

Hopefully Pete. I play off 17, think I've played Royal 6-8 times never broken 100 lol.

Wonder if I can be rehandicapped?, the course I play ATM is par 3s and 4s no par 5s and is only about 4000 metres

There is no denying that Royal is a well presented course with great practice facilities but personally think its boring as bat shit to play.

Tasmania is a great track but always has me worried with their financial dramas the past few years that are on going and again a little boring to play.

Kingston is always improving and considering they have 3 full time staff and limited equipment the course the green staff are able to present is remarkable. Practice facilities are ok and with the proposed changes should be even better. Personally I think Kingston plays harder than Tassie or Royal and that shows with the course ratings.

Claremont has always been a fun track to play and a pity they ran into financial trouble the way they did, I really hope the proposal for the upgrade goes through and eventuates.

It all comes down to how much you want to pay, what sort of course you want to play, how much practice do you regularly do and if travel is an issue or not. For me I couldn't be arsed driving 30-40+ minutest to Tassie or Royal everytime I wanted to play or practice which is why I rejoined at Kingston Beach but also the reciprocal clubs Kingston has is what kept me there.

I'm sure you will enjoy Royal mate and shouldn't have any dramas getting your handicap altered if its required, give me a yell if you ever want to have a hit at Kingston

I am currently in a similar boat. I'm about to make the move to Hobart from Melbourne in early July and considering my options with clubs around the place. We're in the process of getting a rental property so that's obviously going to be a big part of the decision, but more than likely Claremont will be the closest track and doesn't look like a bad option. I'll try to get a hit on most of the courses before I decide though.

Pencil me in for the Tassie Conference Ozgolf Champs!

So I've been down here a few days now. I had a quick nine holes at llanherne yesterday and was really pleasantly surprised, nice layout in good nick. Probably the best value of anywhere I have played. Also had a walk around Kingston beach which looked good but might be struggling a bit with the wet weather. Still to play Royal and Tasmania, but have had a look around both and the facilities look great. Choices, choices...

IMO Tasmania GC would be in the top 10 best greens in the country - they are by far the best greens I have ever putted on

Rohan, llanherne is defiantly the pick of the 9 hole courses.

I watched a mate have a 5 putt on the 13th at Tasmania a few months ago. State champs were on that week - so they were slick. And it was blowing a gale!

They are a good surface no doubt, but a bit repetitive in design IMHO.

Old thread to bring up and I haven't been on here for a while.

I have recently moved to Hobart (Glenorchy). Have played a couple of 9 hole games at Newtown Bay (quirky 9 holer!) and have played at Kingston Beach and Rosny on previous visits.

I know there were a few Hobartians on the now dead TFG site, but I think a few are here as well.

Looking at taking up the Tasmania GC deal for $395 and see how I like and how many games in, but will be keen to have a hit at all the courses around!

There are a few from the old TGF forum!

    Welcome to Hobart PR.
Not the greatest place for golf but cheap compared to the mainland.
    Quick summary.

RHGC - flat course but lots of micro undulations. Always in good nick and great practice facilities. Most expensive in Hobart.
TGC - Some dramatic holes but patchy conditioning. Very hard when the wind blows. Had financial troubles but improving.
KBGC - Down the hill on 1, up the hill on 18..rest is flat and over treed. Good greens but a bog in winter. Financial troubles recently.
Claremont - Could be Australia’s best 9 holer but unfortunately they have squeezed in 18 holes! Average conditioning.
Northwest Bay -feels like a country course. Patchy conditioning. Shit clubhouse, financial troubles

Plenty of other little courses around the place. One to consider is Llanherne GC at 7 mile beach. Relatively cheap but some good holes.
No money troubles and enthusiastic membership. Great value. (https://llanhernegolfclub.org.au)

Notice financial troubles is a common theme. All the clubs have these issues except Royal and Llanherne.

Another one to consider given u are in Glenorchy is Tea Tree gc (http://www.teatreegolfclub.com.au). Great little 9 holer just north of the city. Country feel but friendly with quite a few good players. 3 or 4 really good holes! Value for money!

Thanks Pete for that round up!

I had heard about Llanherne GC being a bit of gem and just a bit more than your standard 9 holer (might have been on TGF).

Have you heard anything further on the Arm End course? was there also one being looked at at 7 Mile?
