    Default Mercy Rule

    Hi Guys,

I have a small number of members at my club wanting a mercy rule (max score per hole in stroke to be 2 over there net par score on each hole) for our Stroke Competitions. Does anybody know of Clubs that use something like that? What are Ozgolfers thoughts on that type of Rule.

    Thanks,

    pete

Run a separate Stableford comp on the day for those pussies.

Let them play par... what nonsense. Stroke with a mercy rule is BS

Newcastle had it mate, but no longer. I'm not sure of the reason why, it may have been GA handicapping thing.

We run a seperate Stab comp on stroke days for those that don't want to play stroke play..

If you don't want to play stroke, play Stableford Last in our club champs had 491 shots. He said it was to be his last ever champs, but he wasn't giving up

Do they want to be a social venue with participation certificates or do they want to play proper golf? It’s a Royal joint FFS.

Model local rule is 5 over par. We use it for monthly medal but not club champs.

My club recently implemented a Stableford comp for C Grade during the Club Champs. Pace of Play was much improved over previous years. I didn't look into the scoring though.

My club is maximum of 14.

The other type or Mercy rule in place at some clubs is " if age + hcap >100" then hit off x tee, for certain holes that have a forced water carry. ( the figure might he more than 100)

2 over their net par is freakin rich!

At a minimum I would make that a moose is always in play.

Pilot, not sure if we still do it but we were running an opt out stableford alongside the medals. On some medal days we had 25% NCR.

Presumably the "hard" men of Ozgolf won't approve.

Punters want to play their 4balls in their groups off the same tee, plus its annoying having people off different tees and adds to the pace of play issue.

Out of curiosity, what grade are these too soft all strokes count players?

For me it’s Stroke (every shot counts) or you play Stableford.
    No snowflake mercy rule.

Pete, thinking back to mid winter down here, I can see some merrit to it in June-August. Winter is usually a good time to play, sunny and calm, but a lot less light. I know Tas were struggling to get fields in on Saturdays in July, still think 2 over is joke.

Burleigh has this. 105 rule. Tee off the red markers on a couple of holes. (Not in play for honour board events)

Make the playas play stroke, the choppers play stroke with max 5 over per hole (exclude anyone using the rule from prizes?) and the spuds play stableford.

Never seen it in play but have heard that my club did used to have a 10 shot rule for stroke play.

Once you had played 9, you scored 10 and picked up.

I have only been a member there since january and never seen it in play but clun captain and pro have confirmed it used to be applied (along with various members confirming)

Our club has the “Max Score” in play on stroke comps for all grades. It’s 3 shots over a “1 point” in stableford. So its a par 4 and i get a shot (in stableford) means that once i hit 9 i can just pick up.

I found that everyone is happy with the pick up rule in stroke play for general rounds until the A graders start to lose to C and D graders who have used the rule during the round, then it usually gets scrapped.

This would be the best option.

Make it a 9 hole comp off the red tees too if they aren't good enough to play big boy/girl golf.

What about the choppers turning up to that makes you think any of us should be playing big boy golf?

    But also, in.
