I am disappointed to learn that Troy our chef/ caterer is leaving.
I am, however, encouraged by your enthusiasm Mark.
Perhaps you should consider a stint on the committee

Thanks Trent, that is under consideration only. Will have to wait until there is an election though.

    in todays news.

    Helensvale Community
    Golf Club

It is with great pleasure that we announce an exciting partnership agreement has been made between the Gold Coast Country Club and the Helensvale Community Golf Club.

This agreement is based upon amalgamating both clubs for the benefits of all its members. As you are aware the Gold Coast Country Club course has been sold to land developers and the "club" will be closing its doors on December 31st 2015.

Effective March 1, if you are a financial member of the Helensvale Community Golf Club, you will receive exclusive reciprocal playing rights at the Gold Coast Country Club up to its closure on December 31st 2015.

During the coming months to December 31st 2015, to ensure the smooth transition for members from the Gold Coast Country Club to the Helensvale Community Golf Club, both Craig Baldwin and Jaime Gianneas will join the Management team of the Helensvale Community Golf Club as at March 2nd 2015 and will float between both clubs until December 31st, after which they will remain into 2016 on agreement.

Both Jamie and Craig not only bring substantial experience, but will also provide much needed support in:

    • Pricing
    • Marketing Strategies
    • Data base Marketing and Management
    • Member Support

and will report directly to the Board of Jigsaw Community Services (QLD) Pty Ltd on the above dot point matters.

There are some very exciting times ahead for us, all of which adds to continued sustainability for our members, both current and new for many years to come.
If you have any questions at all please feel free to contact Jamie (GCCC) on 55732940 or Jason (HCGC) on 55731329

    For and on behalf of,
    The Helensvale Community Golf Club.
    Chairman,
Jigsaw Community Services Qld Pty Ltd

I haven't heard anything from the Country Club yet.

Is Helensvale going to give Gold Coast Country Club members reciprocal rights as well? Will it mean you can just pay the comp fee, no green fees?

I have no information part from what is in the notice, But I am pretty sure your mob have been getting free rounds for a while now. Any local club would be silly not to given the situation.

I haven't played Helensvale so can't comment on it.Gold Coast Country Club has very cheap membership in comparison to a lot of other Gold Coast courses. I would say you get what you pay for.

It's not the kind of amalgamation that you are thinking. GCCC is privately run golf course on leased land that has an expiry date and no real assets. The two guys running it have been given a job at my club, and I guess what it means is HGC bought the goodwill of GCCC, primarily lots of social players/clubs.

Brandon Coleman has been the pro there for almost 30 years,
It's fair to say his proshop/ service has slipped the last 5-10,
But any sense of loyalty/ golf club tradition from the new management will be lost to the almighty $.

I think I know what you mean but the new board has not given any indication that is where its headed. Everything I have seen is quite the opposite, the members and being a real golf club is the priority.

Is the Saturday field at Helensvale generally full mTb?
Will it handle a sudden increase in numbers?

    No. Yes.
We get about 110 punters on Saturdays. We do one tee start and plenty of spare groups between 9-10 or after 11

Default Helensvale Golf Club’s future left swinging

the Following article is a combination of a Gold Coast newspaper article, and a letter from the club 'owner' to members.
    source: http://www.golfindustrycentral.com.a...left-swinging/

The background is Council owns the land. Jigsaw is a non-profit entity, but managed by a private entity. Or in other words, its a private business, the members dont run the club or have a say.

The future of the Helensvale golf course is up in the air after the Gold Coast City Council requested a report for the future use of the area.
Leasee Jigsaw intends to continue with the current lease until its expiry on June 30 next year, however, Jigsaw wish for the club to continue to operate well beyond that date.
For that reason, Jigsaw began exploring options upon which the lease term could be extended into the future to secure certainty to members, including the possibility of different operating models. Jigsaw also flagged the possibility of any new arrangements being put in place as and from 1 July 2018 of before.
The council voted last week to explore other uses for the are including sport fields or parklands.
Last week the Community Service Committee had voted to find a new lease for the golf club, Mayor Tom Tate put forward the amendment to reconsider the use of the course, built at the lowest part of Helensvale.

Helensvale Councillor William Owen-Jones said he would prefer the land to remain as a golf course. “It’s important for the people of Helensvale that the public remains the owner of the golf course reserve, in particular the park which provides a drainage function,” he said.
According to a note form the club this week, Jigsaw intends to strongly challenge any action to close the club and it seek the support of members.
A save our club (SOC) meeting has been convened for 7pm on Tuesday August 15, where members and local residents will be provided with further information and attendees can find out what they can do to help save the club.

Recording of the Gold Coast council meeting. Golf club discussion starts at 17.00 mins
    http://council-live.goldcoast.qld.go...e/video740.php

The best bit is a Key comment from Mayor at 33.00 "I dont want to continue with the current operator"

In a nutshell the background prior to this meeting is: Jigsaw wants council to fund maintenance or capital improvements and council have refused.

So council has voted to consider other options for their site should the Lessee surrender the lease whether at expiry or earlier. The are also consultiing with various golf industry professionals, including Gold Coast District Golf Association, all of whom are in support of the site remaining a golf course.
