Nice work stitching the cheat up btw!

Well Done Johnny. Congrats on the second.

Not easy to concentrate while you know there are cheats doing their thing.

Did he spend a long time looking for his ball?

I think this is true for more than just cheats... I definitely have this issue.

Good work on pulling him up JC. We have one at our club who likes to forget about bad shots, it's just like they didn't happen! I am told he has been suspended for it, but I don't think he's learnt his lesson since I am pretty sure I caught him doing it a while back - pulled him up on it (he claimed innocence) and watched him like a hawk for the rest of the round. It is incredibly frustrating and distracting to play with someone you don't trust. Especially when (like yours) he is a pretty decent bloke to play with other than that.

Committee should have given you the heads up if they considered it an existing problem and expected you to police it.

I pretty much call out any cheating I ever see, so it wouldn't bother me at all to confront him.

However, I am a bit trusting and often let people wander off alone to look for their ball and don't really blink if they find it in a convenient spot.

I do however make a point of remembering what type of ball people putt out with and tee off with, and if I notice the ball they putt out with is different to their tee-ball, I always ask them wtf happened.

As for scorecard cheats, I find it difficult to catch them as if I am concentrating on my own game I find it hard to remember what others have done. Easy to get blokes who say they had par, when they had bogey. Buf if you're playing with a chopper who tells you he had 7 when he had 8, I doubt I would bat an eyelid.

I have always been too trusting, thinking that no one would actually blatantly cheat. I now realise that the game is littered with them.

I am going to be a lot more aware of those in my group in the future.

There was no accusation. I was confirming your score. I had a hard time believing you made a putt. I think I also took a shot off accidentally later in the round too. You were my partner, I needed you to score well.Everyone accused the old Rubes of cheating. We believe he is reformed. The magically appearing Noodle is folklore. The Tourfit incident was discussed at length and it was more to do with handicap manipulation than cheating and I apologised for using that word.

No trouble at all. Hocko is just stirring. I genuinely did not see him make a putt and thought he had missed it.

    hold up.

You took a shot off his score when you were his partner and needed him to score well!

Ladies and gentlemen, what we have here is a cheat! Cheating vicariously is still cheating son!

From what I have read, there is no no evidence of cheating at all.

It seems that you, ultra competitive as you are, and feeling threatened by someone above you on the leaderboard, have got it into your head that your playing partner cheated...once that thought was there, you were obviously going to reinforce it through the round.

    a) Incident 1 may well have been a range ball that he picked up (or another ball that was not his), either way you have NO evidence because you did not identify it...

    b) Incident 2 on the back nine Par 3 again sees you speculating as to what he was doing, because again, you have no real evidence. He may have been just picking up his ball from under the bush to positively identify it as his. If he did not mark it before picking it up, then you were correct to point out his penalty. You then speculated that he was "probably putting it in there"...but again that is just conjecture.

The game of golf requires someone to largely call penalties on themselves most of the time...but to catch a cheat in the process of cheating you have to be VERY sure of what, how and when he has done it. Unfortunately, to me, you can't be certain of the two incidents you mentioned.

I called him on picking up his ball. It also appeared that he moved it, as witnessed by me, but there is nothing I could do about that.

It is speculative regarding the range ball and the other incident, which is why I made no mention to him. However, when you learn there is a history, you tend to think you were correct.

Also,he wasn't ahead of me on the leaderboard until late in the round and realistically didn't view him as a threat as I didn't think he had the game to compete. His status in the comp had nothing to do with it. I'll call out a 36 capper just as quick as I would a scratch marker if he is intentionally.breaking rules.
