Classy stuff by Rudd (as classy as a pollie can get, anyway). How tempting would it have been for him to return the favour? I'll still be surprised if she leads them into the election, though.

If labor weren't already screwed enough come the election, it's just been announced that they're breaking another election promise of a boost to low income families. Any bets on how low they're ratings will get after this one?

I have no opinion on whether the money should be paid out not, or if they're doing the right thing or not. Just that it will sink them even further, I guess???

Goughy, Julia doesn't believe in polls. She is on a mission - one only she and maybe Wayne the weasel knows about. How did it come to this??

Don't think it can get much lower. Their 30% primary vote is made up of the rusted on, those who can't see the forest for the trees.

I'd say a fair few of those rusted on have just found out they won't be getting money they were promised.

This is funny. Terrible government, yes. Terrible alternative, definitely.

Glenn Lazarus standing for the Senate as part of Clive Palmer's party. It's hard to work out who has taken more hits to the head.

Out of interest was it LNP?

I saw poster wavers for the bloke taking on Rudd today. Don't remember seeing any since the last election.

Yep. I just thought the timing was interesting after seeing the LNP out in Rudd's electorate today.

So they're all at it. Maybe I need to get out more and/or be more observant.

Seeing the story on Rudd's electorate reminded me, but I've also seen an LNP guy here doing it as early as a couple of months ago and a Democratic Liberal Party guy or something like that.

I don't understand what they think they are achieving, although I guess I would recognise their names now.

Not in some of the positions I've seen them in. It's almost a dangerous distraction sometimes.

I think what Rudd will do is pull some of the Labor voters back from voting Greens etc. Not sure the people are going to magically think Labor is now all new.

Some backbenchers may now hold their jobs. I don't think he'll win but it might stop the party from looking like Qld.

Hey Gaz, Kerry-Anne Walsh's book "Stalking Julia" released last week, has the lowdown on the Crudd. Miserable prick he is.

How big is the redneck vote, if "Stop the boats" is still a campaigning issue?

After thinking this over I could not understand why Rudd would want to take over that sinking (and rotting) ship, if he truly aspires to being PM again then wouldn't the best strategy be to sit back and watch Gillard disgrace herself presiding over the biggest defeat ever, then let someone else clean up the mess and takeover whenever it looks like ALP has a chance again which may well be some time. I don't buy this line that *he* is doing this for the good of the party as it will save them a few seat.

I now think that all Rudd cared about was to get revenge on Gillard, and he has got it, and she gets the blame for this upcoming defeat. He has no intention of leading the opposition, and after the election will exit politics, and make a fortune from the book sales "I got the bitch in the end". We also haven't seen the last of senior labor politicians announcing retirements because they know the gig is up for them.

Do the entitlements differ based on how the prime ministership ends or are all ex-PMs treated the same?

If he really wanted to be pm again then this was his chance. The way it was going in the election the alp weren't gonna be back in for a decade. I don't doubt he may have been having a smile inside at ousting her, but I don't begrudge him that.

And he doesn't need to make his millions, his wife already has them.
