    Daves - genuine typo - I thought I had put 50k each. Still, I underestimated by 20,000.

We get two senators. Kate Lundy and Gary Humphries. Both get token 'Assistant Minister' roles whoever is in Government

That also doesn't mention Julia Gillard's fling with Peter Gordon of Slater & Gordon (also married). While it mentions Bruce Wilson, it doesn't mention he's married and having an affair with Julia Gillard at the time of the alleged fraud taking place.

Just a side issue, Dr Craig Emerson also had an extra-marital affair with Julia Gillard. Craig Emerson just happened to share digs in Canberra with one Craig Thomson. So don't go thinking the PM knew nothing about Craig Thomson.

Forgive the bluntness here, but whatever did we do wrong to deserve such a skanky ho as our PM? If you were a married woman with a powerful husband, you wouldn't want her within a bull's roar.

His electorate has had some special treatment.

Having worked for however many years of Liberal/National Government in Environmental Grants programs etc, this is just standard Government of the Day operating policy. Some of the funding decisions that were made ignoring the apolitical advice for the Natural Heritage Trust had very little scientific basis, and significantly more "Locational Priority"
I wouldn't bet on Windsor or Oakeshott getting back in. They're not particularly popular in their electorates, despite what they've brought in.

As usual the lefties are more vocal because by nature they are the more hysterical types.
A major factor for me is the economy. The economic waste and failed schemes by labor just goes on and on. The scandals and incompetence within the party are ongoing.
The leader is a liar and can't lead, and her and her partner are an embarrassment representing Australia.
Apparently wealth and success is something to be feared and be jealous of.
Economically if the economy is going alright everything else takes care of itself for the greater good.
I think you'll find the vast majority of Australians like Abbott as a person, prefer the Libs, and the next federal election will result in the decimation of the labor party as has been happening in state elections. It's not that hard to understand why.

His personal polling is bad largely because of a successful scare campaign by the progressives, especially the anti-religion types who find fault with anything that comes out of his mouth.

He's not perfect (there is plenty to criticise) but he's nowhere near as bad as people make out. The way some people carry on anyone would think he's going to try and ban abortion, ban contraception and try to convert the entire country into churchgoers. I mean seriously? And nobody said a word about it when Rudd was doing press conferences in front of church every Sunday.... hypocrites.

Because the media have portrayed him for years as a stereotypical umming and ahhing neanderthal, who swans around in budgie smugglers (despite that being the volunteer lifesavers costume) and a Catholic who contemplated becoming a priest (which by implication makes him a pedophile).

So what is he really? Married (successfully), father (successful though he'd suggest that his wife did most of the parenting), intelligent (you don't get a Rhodes Scholarship for being a grunt), understands small business (in that his wife runs a child care centre), community minded (volunteer surf life saver, fire fighter, raises funds for charity and spends time as a teaching aide in aboriginal community), fit (had a boxing blue at university, and would still run rings around most of us as a triathlete), and a cabinet member in the Howard government (one of the more stable governments we've had - even if you didn't like their policies or politics). He was apparently involved in nobbling Pauline Hansen, which wasn't good form. 30 years ago he would have been fairly closely aligned to the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) as a social conservative.

So how does that compare with Julia Gillard - has had numerous affairs with married men, childless, doesn't appear to have done much volunteering, was a member of the Socialist Forum (associated with the Communist Party), left S&G under a cloud, is currently a person of interest in a fraud investigation, and knifed a sitting PM.

    Default The Political Thread

This was the response of one of the guys I used to work with regarding Tony Abbott. I mean, seriously?

I'm sure to be comfortable in the return to 1950 Australia where women know their place in the kitchen, being gay is illegal and a jail-able offence, contraception is outlawed, RUD486 is outlawed, abortion is illegal, single mothers are "housed" in hospitals and have their babies taken away, our indigenous communities are moved to missions and the white Australia policy returns..... Not to mention large increase to middle class welfare at the expense of those who can least afford it.... Now that would be criminal!!!!

In light of that example of shining wit, wb, I'll choose to ignore your opinion on politics forthwith as you simply appear to be rusted on. In case you want to accuse me of being rusted on, I have never given any of the major parties or The Greens my vote, but have chosen to direct my preference (and in not all cases was it to the Libs or the Nats either).

Unsure of this is genuinely from Ross Greenwood, but very interesting if it turns out to be accurate:

Quote Originally Posted by Ross Greenwood of Money News

How much? $200 billion. And here's a worry.

If you work in a bank's money market operation; or if you are a politician; the millions turn into billions and it rolls off the tip of the tongue a bit too easily. But every dollar that is borrowed, some time, has to be repaid. By you, by me and by the rest of the country.

Just after 5 o'clock tonight I did a bit of math for Jason Morrison (Sydney radio presenter). But it's so staggering its worth repeating now.

First thought; Gillard, Swan, Wong, before that Rudd, all of the Labor Cabinet, call these temporary borrowings, a temporary deficit.

    Remember Those Words: Temporary Deficit.

The total Government debt will end up around $200 billion. So here's a very basic calculation.. I used a home loan calculator to work it out..... it's that simple.. $200 billion is $2 hundred thousand million.

The current 10 year Government bond rate is 4.67 per cent. I worked the loan out over a period of 20 years. Now here's where it gets scary.... Really scary.

The repayments on $200 billion, come to more than one and a quarter billion dollars - every month - for 20 years.
It works out we - as taxpayers - will be repaying $15.4 billion in interest and principal every year..
$733 for every man woman and child - every year. The total interest bill over the 20 years is - get this - $108 billion.

Remember, this is a Government, that just 4 years ago, had NO debt. NO debt.

In fact, it had enough money to create the Future Fund, to pay the future liabilities of public servants' superannuation, and it had enough to stick $20 billion into the Building Australia Fund...

A note was sent to me which explains that the six leading members of the Government, from Ms Gillard down, have a collective work experience of 181 years, but only 13 in the private sector.

If you take out of those 13 years the number that were spent as trade union lawyers, 11, only two years were spent in the private sector.

So out of those 181 years:

    - no years spent running their own business
    - no years spent starting their own business
    - no years spent as a director of a family business or a company
    - no years as a director of a public company
    - no years in a senior position in a public company
    - no years in a senior position in a private company
    - no years working in corporate finance
    - no years in corporate or business restructuring
    - no years working in or with a bank
    - no years of experience in the capital markets
    - no years in a stock-broking firm
    - no years in negotiating debt facilities with banks
    - no years running a small business
    - no years at the World Bank or IMF or OECD
    - no years in Treasury or Finance.

But these people have plunged Australia into unprecedented debt. Well, in a way you can't blame them. It's clear the electorate did not do their homework, because the Government is there by right.
Ah, but they are Labor and people vote for them because Labor is good for the working family - right???

If you have read this you may like to pass it on to your friends to help educate a little as you, them and I, will be repaying the above.

That's something which has been going around since 2009 - the numbers haven't been updated since then.

So perhaps it is good news as it means the debt hasn't grown at all in the last 2.5 years.

Edit - Even better, here's Ross himself on the email he didn't write. http://blogs.abc.net.au/queensland/2...-his-name.html

It piqued my interest a bit so a bit of googling reveals it is utter horseshit from beginning to end.

There was about $50B in securities outstanding when Rudd as elected which, if you are going to claim $200B as debt now/then, is $50B more than NO debt. The 181 years thing is wrong. Garret was a minister when this was first written, and Faulkner and a few others that had past lives that weren't with the union or party.

Is google down for you Courty?

Praising the Gillard governments economic management might be the same as praising Ricky Pontings captaincy.

Any numpty would have won all those test matches with McGrath and Warne in the team.
