I've found the hybrid to be great, but the rangefinder has been used more definitely, with the GPS being good for a quick confirmation. Interestingly, the battery got flat the other day and the GPS stopped, but I could still use the rangefinder.

Yep - I bought the hybrid about the same time as you and I reckon I use the rangefinder 14 or 15 times around, the GPS maybe 2 or 3 times if that. It's the best $450 I've ever spent, I am pin high much much more than I used to be and much more confident in hitting the right club.
If only I could buy something that would help me hit every chip somewhere in a 3 foot radius of the hole, I reckon I'd be breaking 80 regularly again.
Bumping this one. I see Drummond are selling the SureShot Micro for $97. Has anyone used one of these? How long do the batteries last and are they any good. I guess I want to comapre it with my XG and see if it is any better.

After playing a round with the guys on friday I will now be investing in a rangefinder ASAP , saved me twice from coming up short knowing the distance TO THE PIN... big difference in my scores if im atleast somewhere on the green putting instead of chipping on from 10-15m out. Any recommendations on the cheaper side? or worth just going the full price and getting a bushnell as Ill be using it for a long time im sure.
I got an eagle one off the bay. Was about $200 delivered. Works well. The eyepiece has broken out of it (still works fine just falls out if you tip it up). And the kids play with and switch it to yards a fair bit so need to be on your game

@Waddzy
Just fork out for something that has good comments here. No point buying something cheap and getting pissed off with poor performance. Make sure you get something with pinseek or the equivalent.

Hey Waddzy,
someone mentioned these guys the other week on here somewhere. Not sure what they are like as a company, someone will have used them I am sure and can give feedback.

I just bought a range finder last week so thought I would share my findings and opinions. After trying a few different models in store and on course I immediately decided that I wanted to get one with OLED technology for the display. I tried the Bushnell Tour V3 in store and could barely read the display it was so dim. The Bushnell Z6 model and above all have OLED displays (they call it vivid display or something like that) and the bright red retical and number display is fantastic.
However I didn't like the feel of the Bushnell Z6, the button was too small and didn't click very well. Plus in all the comparison reviews I read they mentioned that the equivalent Leupold models were slightly better in almost every way. Unfortunately the Leupolds are hard to track down in Australia, but going by the amount of sterling reviews they got I thought I would take the chance on getting a Leupold GX-3i from the States.
Don't regret my decision at all. The GX-3i is fantastic and I can't fault it in any way. I can't believe I waited this long to pick up a range finder.
Gents, this is the one I have used for a couple of years, I had the original one then upgraded to the 2000 about a year ago. I have had no problems with this brand.

This is the one I got. I have no issues with it other than the eye piece breaking out I mentioned earlier which was totally my fault. IT still works great, is easy as to use. Uses 2xAAA batteries (I take one out after each round and they last ages).

Stick with bushnell or Leupold. I own both and they are great. I have tried a few smaller brands that playing partners had and found them to be rubbish in comparison.
Yep there are only two brands to look at. The rest are not worth the risk.
Leupold for mine.

Has anyone seen the V2 for cheaper than the $279 at golfbox?
Sorry to threadmine.. I'm starting to consider one of these. Has anyone tried/heard much about the new Nikons? Are Bushnell/Leupold still the two to beat?

I got Bushnell V3 from Daves. After using the V2 I've found the V3 a lot easier to use.
I thought the "jolt technology" was a bit of a gimmick, but it's a great feature. This unit seems to lock on a lot quicker, and is easier to hold than the V2.
I'd definitely put this on the short list.
