    Default GPS Eliminations/Recommendations

Haha. Mine is taped to the inside of a pocket. But I know what you mean. When the need arises I will have misplaced it.

But anyway; it's obvious that lasers are much easier in that regard.

There is an advantage to GPS systems:

    * if held correctly on your bag/ buggy with a mount - it will be a simple glance away.

    * will work when you don't have direct line of sight

    * can be more useful to get front/ back of green figures. Can inspire confidence rather than out pressure on you hitting an exact number.

    I bought a Bushnell Medalist Rangefinder in mid November and since then have shot 75, 73, 72, 74 and a 61 in a 2 man ambrose. I don't think it's a coincidence.

My Sureshot 8850 GPS has not come out of the bag since. Should probably be in the Pro Shop forum for sale.

I have both GPS and Rangefinder. I use the Rangefinder a lot more on unfamiliar course to identify spots I want to hit to. Examples are other end of the fairway on a dogleg, carry for a fairway bunker, distance to the top a tree to fly over.

The GPS helps for unsighted greens. As MTB has said, you rely on someone else's markings done from a Satellite image. I have seen some dubious markings from others who have GPS specific devices.

Being able to see the contour of the green from 150m out is a bonus.

I gave the lady a SS9000X V2 for Chrissy. Took it out for a run on Saturday and was suitably impressed. I had it set on distance to the green- front, centre and back. Certainly beats the laser for convenience. The thing is smaller than a mobile phone.

The Neo I have easily fits in the pocket, so if I get a rangefinder, that will be a change.

The crux of the matter is that those that have never owned a GPS Ike it when they get one.

Those that own a GPS seem to prefer the rangefinder when they get one.

Those that just move directly to the rangefinder don't complain either.

The Bushnell Hybrid is a touch bulky, that is the only negative I can see with it though. You carry, so it is a little different situation to the average user in terms of convenience/accessability. I have a mobile phone type mount on my buggy that will take pretty much any GPS model. The GPS is always in view and easy to check. I also have a Neo and nice belt pouch that is very good for when I am carting. My recommendation would be to get a separate Rangy and GPS, a V2 and a Neo. Or go for one of the new Z6s if you want to spend a bit more.

Unfortunately, those aren't options on the list for my pro shop, but I could ask.

If you can get them to get you a Bushnell V2 do that, and then you can buy my Sureshot 8850 for $100. Problem half solvered.

Well a V2 will be about $300-$350. You can use the $150-$200 on something that you would have bought for golf anyway (balls etc.) using your own cash anyway, so really your not spending anything at all. Simple transference.

I went from using a couple of GPS app on a couple of phones to a range finder and much prefer the latter. The GPS was just too fiddly, probably will be easier on a dedicated device but I doubt I would ever get one now.

ID, I'll point out that I have an old Neo with a couple of buttons missing, that does not have preloaded courses on it. Thanks for assessing the list.

It would be more accurate and reliable than a GPS, so it would be the goto device, if I got one.

    Good for pennants too.

Do you have one? If you do, you don't take it out on courses that you know and play regularly.

Croydo, what's your source for this? Is it possible that it is a lower level rangefinder plus Neo?

Andy, here is the blurb from the http://www.bushnell.net.au/p/406/bus...de-201951.html :
The Bushnell Hybrid is a perfect combination of the Bushnell NEO and the V2. Introducing the Bushnell Hybrid Laser Rangefinder and GPS in one. The Combination of the laser accuracy with GPS convenience, it can make a huge difference to your game and assist in get that information you need to select the right club for the job at hand.
PinSeeker Technology used by more than 90% of PGA professionals, with +/-1-yard accuracy, 5x magnification and distance to front, center and back of green. Professionals often comment on the need to keep your short game up to speed. The Bushnell Hybrid can help you do just that!
The GPS function offers thousands pre-loaded courses including Australia, Auto Hole Advance, Auto Course Recognition and no one-time or re-occurring membership fees.

Both the Tour V2 and the hybrid unit have the same 5 x magnification, Pin seeker technology, and are accurate to a 1 yard.

Here's a thought. Ask the pro shop if they have any demos of each you are interested in and then take them out and try before you buy. A lot of clubs look after their members like that. The only way you will find out is to try them.
