Well, that was an interesting day yesterday. We were third group off and in a group of 3. First group were 4 walking. Second group was a 3 with two in a cart. By the end of the first nine the second group was two holes behind, with us constantly waiting for them. Here's the real breaker though. I was the low marker in our group, off 16, and shot 25pts. The next was off 28 and shot 18pts. The other was off 32 and shot 33pts. Only time we got held up was when looking for balls. But we moved smoothly the whole time and had a great day, cept for the hold ups.

Do any of the clubs you guys play at actually do anything to help with slow play at all other than just "talk about it" at committee meetings?

One of the clubs I'm a member at has been increasingly getting slower & slower (mainly due to the age of membership) but the club aren't proactive at all in helping eliminate slow play with course marshells etc

Saturday's at our club is not too bad on pace. Mind you I'm usually second or third group and we slow up half way round the back nine when we catch the end of the morning field. Usually touch under 4 hrs.
Sunday is a different story, there are two groups that are renowned for being slow. Yesterday managed to tee off before them and it only proved my point. Group behind us (in carts) ended up 2 holes behind and the other group a further 2 holes.
We teed off at 7:10am and finished 10:50.

I remember when 4 hours for 18 holes was considered slow. Now my home club say that if its 4.5 hours then its acceptable which is so frustrating with all the old fellas that walk in one little group to each others ball whilst discussing all the worlds problems

We usually get around in under 3 hours on a Saturday in a group of 3 in carts. Our course isn't that busy but if you get stuck behind a group they usually let you go past.

Wife had a 5 1/2 hr round at Royal Freo last week.

1hr of that was waiting on the tee (with 4 other groups!) at the par 3 17th!

Greens were rock hard and fast. Pin position was back with a back to front slope. Wife on in regulation,
6 putts later came off with a 7! Putts would get up to the hole, stop, and roll back down to your feet
again. One even went around the hole and back down! The whole field was having problems.

Also not impressed were the groups there for a corporate day who had to wait until the women
were finished. I suspect it would have been dark by the time they came off the course.

    Golf WA ladies silver/bronze event.

Our club is going to have a 1 comp test of groups of 2 only and 5 minute intervals. Most people use carts so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Haven't thought too much about the logic of it yet, but why not try something!

Anything to avoid addressing the issue with slow players/groups

Exactly as it's usually only 1-2 groups or players that ruin the day for 100+ other blokes out there!!!

Most of our rounds are between 4 hours and 4h20m. Not too bad, but yes, agreed.

Yep, we had a guy at my club who's now left.

Slowest player I've ever seen and played around the same time late every Saturday, the board sent him numerous letters saying he was too slow and threatening various penalties.

As none of those penalties ever transpired he just filed the letters in his office and continued as usual.

We now have a marshal in a cart but I doubt anyone really listens to him which really defeats the purpose.

Had a word to a group at Nudgee during the Wednesday comp. "Hi fella's do you realise you have lost two holes to the group in front of you" This was after they teed off on the ninth. All I can say is"wow"! With one comment it became worthy of Unforgiven 2.

Totally oblivious of others, and what is going on around them. And it more often than not isn't the poor maligned Millenniums or Xs either. The Boomers are the worst.......

The first response to my comment was
    "That's it!
I've had it with this, your group can go f.,, yourself's and tell the little c--- to get fu..... I bet he put you up to this!"
This outburst concluded with him in my face.
I never got a word in.
When they finally stopped and walked off I called
"you're now two and a half holes behind,"

    Great come back Ferrins!

It was a slow round at my club a few Saturday's ago and I asked the group behind to not walk up to the tee while we were teeing off and wait till we had at least left the tee before they walked on it. Got a similar response but without the expletives. Was absolutely dumb founded when one of that group started to walk towards me as if to try and intimidate me.

People like this are the reason why I'm losing interest in comp golf on a busy day and enjoying social in non peak times more and more.
