Ozgolf Champs 2013 Tenth Anniversary Discussion Thread

No disrespect to Shavey's awesome organisation skills but interested in starting discussion about the tenth champs.
Should it be a special event? a change of location?
Victoria/NSW/Cairns/Tasmania?
Do we have to stay in SEQ? Is that where people like playing?
With enough notice does it matter where we play or if it costs some of us a bit extra?
Will it be down to whoever decides to do the organisation?
Should the reigning champ each year choose the next location? [kind of like the Masters dinner...]

Qld is the original home of the champs and think it should stay that way. Where we play isnt really an issue as long as accom is on site so no one risks drink driving. Shavey does a great job of orgnising and unless someone else shows interest to do it which i have not yet seen then where he gets the deals seems to work fine.

I think it is time to change locations and I have no problem what so ever moving North or South.
Yes Oz Golf did start out in QLD, but this place has grown so large now with members all over the country, it could work in another State.
Before people start bringing up the obvious argument about cost, let me say this. You have 12 months to put money away which is more than enough time to organise yourself.

The crew from up North & down South have always made the effort, so I think it is our time to reciprocate.
I have spoken to quite a few fellow Oz Golfers about this topic over the years and there is definitely interest in the idea.

Why move the champs? Why not just organise another major at another time of year for an interstate trip?

I have mentioned to a few people the idea of the Hunter Valley.
But, I think first things first, let's see if Shavey has any plans or ideas (if he indeed wants to keep doing it) and start from there...

I will not be going back to pelican if the champs are there. Time for something different. Currently sitting at the vintage in the hunter wondering whether the hunter is somewhere I will organise a trip to next year.
Champs IMHO can be anywhere close to a major airport. Hunter gold coast tassie Murray river. I know I am less constrained for family matters than others BUT If it isn't then we could/should just call it the qld champs.

The fact that Pelican's greens have been shithouse every time works against it. Other than that, I don't see a drama with it (although personally I'd rather not play at my home track).

Probably wouldn't be favourable to the longer markers. I know I'm only a first-timer at champs and relative newb to Ozgolf but maybe a venue change is in order so more than 68 points wins champs!

I agree Hux, like you I am not restricted by family constraints so I am open to anything.

I think the Ozgolf Champs should be held within cooee of Brisbane, which includes Sunny Coast, Gold Coast, Northern NSW and Toowoomba.
A trip into Newcastle our Vic would be awesome but should be looked at another time of year.

I didn't attend this year but would really like a change from Pelican.

Rich I didn't attend either, but would also like to see a location change. A trip away during the year is overdue though.
Also just a thought, maybe Shavey might want to have a rest from organising the Champs for a change? It might be time for someone else to take the rains for awhile?

The Champs stays in SEQ, it is what it is because of what it became. If you change the recipie it wont be the same.

Just like what happened in real golf the 4 majors were not created or fabricated, they slowly became that time (the word major was coined by someone in the media) You cannot just make a new event a major because nobody might not turn up. The Westralians have a grand annual event dont they? Maybe one day more and more from civilisation might make the trip and it too will become a major event. If not, it never was.

Those in the other regional areas, organise an event, send out invites, it might happen.

I am partial to the City of Cairns open, 3 day event, good company (if Solarman stays away) and the event is ready made, no nancy girl arguments.

The gold coast is easy to get to and plenty of choices, however I am flexible as to where and when the event is played.
