Still, would be nice to contribute every so often.

Who is TWM? It can't take too much time to login and say "I'm in" can it? Certainly no longer than it would take to tell someone else via text/email/phone.

If it stays at 9 on 9 I would vote for just best 6 scores per team.

I believe i have said this before. It is - in my opinion - incredibly rude to expect be able to play in these events without having the courtesy to at least contribute with ur availability.

Agreed. The following post from the Forum Overlord sums it up nicely when discussing eligibility (as opposed to entry).

From the 13 replies and my own opinion, I believe we should go with the criteria below:

To be eligible to win the Championship, the participant must be a contributing member of the forum.

The term "contributing" is intentionally vague as it would be something that would be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

However this brings up the question as to whether jarro should play or not. That is, does he actually contribute anything to the forum?

It generally means that the member should post now and then, and has or intends to take part in other Ozgolf days, with special considerations.

For Example, both Golfgirl and Kee have been unable to either post or take part in days due to personal circumstances, and they would not be excluded as a result. Other considerations may include those who are not located near other OZgolf members.

This does not mean that only members can participate in the day and win prizes. This criteria is for the title (and trophy (and bragging rights)) for the overall OZgolf Club Champion.

Several people mentioned that we don't want to discourage others from playing and joining our community, and I agree. So I would encourage anyone to play and be eligible for the prizes, if the yet-to-be-determined "comp" fee is paid.

Finally, another undertone of some of the replies was that it was all getting a little too serious. So let's just remember why we organise these rounds in the first place. To have a hit of golf with mates (with some sledging), and enjoy ourselves.

P.S I believe a secondary issue is the eligility of a pro and there are have been some grumblings about this, however I didn't address this in the eligibility questions that I asked. So I'm not sure how to tackle this one. If you want to remain anonymous in your thoughts on this, PM me your opinion and I will post it.

If he's ineligible for the champs let me know and I'll pass it on. I'm sure he won't be too bothered, nothing worries him, but it'd be best for him to know in advance rather than find out afterwards on the off chance that he wins another Ozgolf day.

For mine - its not the eligibility - its that there has been no consideration or personal effort involved from a bloke who wants to play. As sms or oms said, it takes 5 mins to log in and send a post saying "thanks shadesy, i would like to play as well".

Ozgolf is only as good as the participants that put in the time to make it what it is. If no one posted there wouldn't be a trip down south and everyone would like to hear from TWM every now and again because from what you say, he sounds like a top guy, but how would any of us know.

It's not a gang up Veefore......the excuses you have given "for him" are a prime example of what we're talking about.

Unless he's a super hero saving the world from impending doom, there is no real reason he can't pop in every now and then and say 'ello.

He's probably a top bloke but non of us (except you) would know.....getting you to log in and speak on his behalf is very poor form IMO.

In my opinion, he should be eligible for prizes, just not the trophy, like my mates Marty and Tommyg.

The biggest problem with getting people like TWM and others like him to contribute regularly is the fact that they are time-poor and can only check in once or twice a week. Then, when they do check in they have to wade through hundreds of posts of either inane dribble or insider jokes and conversation that leaves them feeling as if there is an "inner circle" and they are being excluded from it.

I've recommended this site to at least a dozen people and when I later ask them if they checked it out I get the same sort of comments from them. One compared it to Facebook rather than a golf forum.

I understand that this is the social network of choice for some of you but I fear that the very things that makes it so appealing to you, the conversational and often off-topic aspect of it, is also the thing that turns some others away or even just makes it harder for them to participate.

I've noticed from a personal perspective that in any WA threads if I don't pick up on it within the first day it is up then the thread has gone off on a tangent or just turned in to dribble and any comments I may have had in regards to the original post, constructive or not, would just seem out of place.

I'm not sure how a quick "thanks for organizing, looking forward to it" would seem out of place at any point in the relevant threads??

...in his defence the poor guy hasn't even worked out that graphite iron shafts are for either ladies or grandpas, so getting his head around navigating through a complex website is probably beyond him. Poor fella. Your charity work in this regard is very noble veefore.

But come on... get the minstrel to wander online and say gday at least??

Most of us aren't in the inner circle. I feel like I'm part of the outer inner circle......or is that the inner outer circle. Maybe I'll just pop in to some of the circles and say hello from time to time.

in all seriousness though - the reason why threads get off track so often is because we have all put in the time and effort to get to know each other, and like any other conversation, people go off on tangents. golfnut only logs in once a week when mrs nut lets him, and (for the most part anyway) he can keep track of things.

Vee - you are confusing friendship and banter, with exclusion and secrecy. If you are open to making friends and willing to contribute occasionally its not that difficult to get involved.
