With numbers down at Pelican Waters this year, and a field which is more national at Perth, should the WA champs be considered the true OZgolf Championship?

Forum needs more banter.

I have 6 groups booked for a new year bash at Pacific Harbour. Still plenty of Ozgolf guys in Qld that want to have a hit.
Andy was too diplomatic to say this, so I'll spell out what I understand to be the Ozgolf position.
There is no Ozgolf National Championships as such.
There are state championships for each state. None are more important than the other.
However, Benno_R, 3puttpete, Peppas and myself may have set the precedent by becoming golf tourists this year. We may have to do something in future years (similar to the Player of the Year thing), where the majors are subject to wider recognition.
For the purpose of that discussion (which might be worth a new thread), an ACT event, whether it be the Christmas Classic or the Birthday Bash should be included.

This....no idea why this got dredged up.
Qld was the largest numbers historically, however a large number of people had to travel to get to them, so when other options with better courses come up (eg Vic Champs) the travel and golf dollars will nearly always go to the best course options.
All things have a finite life span. The format of the Qld champs it seems has reached its use by date. There is a way forward and that is value for money and camaraderie.

I like to think of the OZgolf champs, like the Masters and the Open.
They don't have the Queensland, US or British prefix, but it is sometimes put there, to distinguish them from similar events that followed them years later.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.
In your spellchecker it probably is.
