Shanks Are Bloody Funny

Once you go yellow, you will never go back
Checking in, for a really confidence destroying circumstance. The very first hole, after two really good shots I'm only 30m short on the par 5, planning a clever pitch and run to start my day with a birdie. Obviously the club path into the ball was a bit off, and the face didn't even touch the ball. Easy way to turn birdie into bogey, and the next two chips were duffed in a 'please don't shank this one as well' mindset.
Fortunately no others during the round.

I witnessed consecutive shanks from 2 of my playing partners yesterday. Both shortish chip shots (just like Jim, they were 3rd shots into a par 5) and both flew within a few metres of where I was standing.
I get my shanks out of the way before a round these days. I have had shanks in the practice nets before both my recent rounds at Warrnambool and Jindalee lately, but nothing during.
Shit, very RUDE of me too.
A pearler with a baby wedge in hand on 15 at Glenelg to start the trip. Couldn't make the up n down for par there.
Then an absolute ripper on 7 at Cobden (with maybe a 6 iron?), down into the piss / ravine / long grass. Lob Wedge from 77 metres, up above a gum 30m above me, curling 12 footer to save the bogey, and most importantly save me / eliminate benno_r from the"eliminator".
Good times.
For about the past 7-8 years I’ve hit exactly one shank in comp per year.
In 2018 I made it all the way to December before the great hosel.
This year, opening hole of the 36 hole Kennedy Bay Classic. Easy 4i to start.
Whammo.
The Mexican El Hosel rears his ugly head and I put my first shot of the tournament into the water hazard 45° right of the first tee.
Pretty relaxed now knowing I’m safe for another year.
Relaxed now, JC, but it could possibly be another sign of the world ending, if you hit another one this year.
Finessed one out of the sand today sideways sending it into the adjacent penalty area.🤡
I have to check in here, managed to shank a 6 iron chip behind a tree. It was just how the day went.
Bumping this for someone on the par 3 12th at Willunga yesterday.
Didn’t you knock it stiff, 5 feet for Par
Only to miss it, TC style

Bumping this for 2 players on SA South East trip today.
1 at Millicent the other at Beachport
I’ll claim the one at Millicent on the 2nd hole.
After a fat 6iron that came up short to an elevated green a simple 10m pitch up to the green with a pin that had heaps of room to work with.
56 degree was chosen resulting in some hosel tickle running along the ground off at angle finishing just off the green long right.
Yes, it was me. 67m out from the the pin on the 5th at Beachport and was trying to angle a shot into the stiff right to left breeze but was too tired to move my feet. As a result, 54 deg wedge got caught too far on the inside and I s**** ed the ball 45 deg to the right and over a road.
Checking in. Two chips in a row. They say the hardest shot in golf is the one after a socket, well try hitting the next shot after two in a row. I wimped out by pulling the putter for that one, and then refused to chip unless I had to for the rest of the round.
As is often the case, I had, and still have, no idea what I did wrong. But I know I'll be doing a lot of putting from off the green for a while.
