Big shank off the 2nd tee yesterday. Trying to hit a high cut 4 iron, and all I hit was hosel. .
    115m left for 2nd shot on a par 3.

I don't think I've ever hit one before but today I did.

6i into one of Norman's stupid greens surrounded by about 20 bunkers. I think it went off more at 60 degrees than 45. Narrowly missed highballin's head and ended up in the trees. Wipe

No sooner had that shot gone zing hard right, the question was raised about bumping the thread followed by some giggling. At least yours was from the rough.

The second one in the group on the same hole followed immediately after that one was executed by your truly .
After hitting a good 3 wood for safety to the prime spot in the middle of fairway I was left with a 122m to a pin cut short right surrounded by bunkers short and right. First thought was 8 iron. Changed mind to soft 7 as wanted to be past the pin taking bunkers out of play.

Part way through swing the inner voice whispers don't flush it long. Zing, big piece of hosel over the trees headed towards another green previously played. Find ball fried egged in bunker. Bunker on RHS of green between me and pin cut 8 foot over bunker. Attempt to get shot into bunker from fried egg fails leaving it half way in the rough. Almost resigned to fact a wipe is going to happen the 56 is opened up for the delicate flop. Shot is played to perfection landing just on green and trickles down on the slick greens to a foot for tap in 5 and 1 point

Forgot to add I hastily rubbed the blue dot off the hosel that came from my custom ball markings.

I think lefty has a photo somewhere of my hosel rocket on the 12th @ Latrobe. Too much sharpie on the ball left a nice orange mark centre hosel.

Claims were made for one on 18th @ Cape Schanck out of the reticulation sand fill. Unfortunately that was just a shit shot (I was aiming 10m right of the hole away from the bunkers).

I had 3 today and still managed to play to handicap.

First was on 13 at thurgoona. 7 iron second shot straight at 45 into the trees, bounced around a bit and actually left me with a shot to just short of the green. Couldn't get up and down for bogey though.

Then on 2, 6 iron straight right into the thick stuff. Hack, hack up and down for double bogey.

Lastly on 8, tough par 4, Middle of fairway, 6 iron in and shank. Got lucky again and was able to punch to just short of the green and get up and down for bogey.

How I played to handicap today I'll never know.

Shanked a birdie ball with my 7i in my backyard this arvo. Lucky it was low enough that the fence stopped it. It'd be like a 200mtr return walk to have gotten it!

It was the kikuyu grass runner that grabbed my 2 iron and resulted in the shank!

Lager was zero for today. But his 5i is "out of action", so I am not sure if that counts?

I think I may have chuckled at my sherman today, as if the divot hadn't grown over I may have been in exactly the same spot as a previous effort. When you go in the Valley Of Sin to the right of the right bunker on 16 at Ballina, the next shot requires a super delicate flop shot with a wide open clubface. I hit the hosel last time I was there, and I did it again today, into an ultra impossible spot. I was hoping for a miracle up and down for par, but turned it into a triple.

I might need to put the 60 degree back into the bag just for this shot.

I had six __ (I can't say it..) on Sunday at Penfield. My first time there; comfy layout, not too demanding and I was two under coming into the 9th when I stupidly rolled a chip into a bunker. Coming from a course where bunkers are pretty hard, I thought I'd take advantage of the soft sand on offer by trying to hit a 'proper' sand wedge shot rather than the usual clip. No go ! ___ed it over the green into the trees. Then, trying to pitch back onto the green, another ___ over the green for a wipe.

Played the 10th, 11th and 12th fine but then on the par 3 13th, I missed the green to the right and found myself in thick, wet rough and in an attempt to lob out of it onto the green, I ____ into another bunker and in frustration sculled over the green for another wipe.

From there I ____ a 5 iron off the tee into bushes on the 14th, my chip out of the bushes raced across the green into a little pot bunker than I couldn't even swing out of for another wipe.

On the 15th, I ____ an 8 iron into dense rough leading to yet another wipe.

On the 16th, I ____ my 8 iron again for another wipe.

    17th - I don't even remember playing that hole..

Par 5 18th - missed the eagle putt and finished with a birdie.

I feel I should disinfect my wedges,5 & 8 irons or something. I'll stick them in a bucket of Domestos overnight I think.. maybe..

PeteyD on the 15th at Redland Bay. After hitting it long and straight off the tee his wedge approach shanks hard and flies towards out of bounds 40 metres to the right. It hits a tree solid in the middle and flies back at PeteyD to finish maybe a couple of metres away from his feet.

    It was a spectacular shank.

But sadly not the worst shot of the day...
