    Default FST shafts

I have a bit of a variation of shafts in my toppies at the moment, so was thinking of reshafting into some FST shafts.

Any reviews on the different variations ? I can see there are stepless, which I see are a little more tip stiff, or the normal which play more like a Dynalite.

I've long been a fan of the Pro White which is now the stepless one you speak of. Great shafts for $6 a pop. Ridiculous value.

Tim, are you talking about the FST Pro 115 & 125 shafts? If so, where do you get them for $6.00 each?

I'm currently playing my (TourFit) equivalent FST shaft...but it is basically the Pro 125. They are insane value for money!!!

3OD...let me know if you're interested, I can send you over a set of shafts (mine are an R/S combo, not S/X).

Used these shafts for nearly 4 years now. Pity ozgolf search doesn't work on three letter words.

Use google search on Ozgolf. I have waxed lyrical about these shafts countless times

Yep, every single person I've spoken to or read about has raved about these shafts and for the price that makes them twice as good!

Thanks TF, But I was only going to buy 5 shafts for five to nine.

I play reg flex best, but prefer the soft tip shaft to match. I assume a 115 or 125 non Pro would suit me ?

Looked there & Golfworks etc, they're about $10.00 per shaft + shipping (still cheap I know). The normal (stepped) FST 115/125 are the ones that are priced at $6.00.

They all play very soft and give very high launch and high spin rate. Not a bad shaft for your average joker who can't get the ball in the air!

I tried some of the Pro115 in X flex and they were considerably softer than my Rifle 5.5's

Wilson Staff Ci-9's come with the FST 105's in them.
I really liked them. Looked on there site only 115's.
    Any ideas on that

The profile of the stepless is a tad stiffer in the tip than the stepped version, but they are by NO MEANS stiff!!! If you tested a 5 iron and it was too stiff in the tip, just soft step the trim! After all, you're only shafting 5-9 iron and there is a lot of scope to vary the trim softer. BTW, 5 shafts is OK with me, they are parallel anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Yet I tried the FST 125 Pro at a hard stepped S and they play similar to a Rifle 5.5.

I would expect that the 115 would play softer than the Rifle profile mostly due to the weight and wall thickness. Compare apples with apples. The 115 in X plays similar to the NSPro 1050 in X.

Someone was looking for FST shafts recently - looks possible there will be no more made.

FST decided last year to pause the manufacture of the FST line and we we were just told they will not be manufacturing them in 2023, which is too bad.

That was me looking for an FST Pro 115 in reg for my 4 iron. Since that was unsuccessful, my club pro is trying to straighten the bend in the current shaft.

IMO thats a bit of a fallacy. A stiffer shaft for you will just mean you hit it straighter and lower. however stiffer shafts are heavier and that might make it harder to swing for some people, and thus could also lose some distance.
We should just use the shaft that is comfortable for us, as it turns out, lighter is flexier.

In saying that I wouldt think that you need to hit it straighter, so what you got is probably your Goldilocks.

Swing speed doesn't influence the choice of shaft flex?

Yes and No. The Yes part is more to do with launch requirements than the actual flex. And there is no standard for flex as you are aware. Weight comes into it as much , if not more. Flex matters much more at the extremes of swing speed, less so in the middle where most of us reside. I regularly mix Reg and Stiff shaft options with very little noticeable difference. As Blakey says a stiffer shaft (mostly just a slightly thicker, stiffer tip and perhaps a bit more weight) will probably go slightly straighter and a fracture shorter, on average. I have two set of Adams CB3s with the same shaft. One set is Reg, one Stiff and I cannot pick any difference at all.

The other element is length. I play my shafts long (irons 1.5 to 2" long) to get my MOI match. That extra length changes flex considerably also. Vice a versa, playing shafts short increases the overall flex. But these changes are slightly different to new shaft manufactured with a target stiffness, mainly through tip stiffness. Driver shafts are a whole different animal these days with all sorts of construction variables, counter balancing, super light weights, bend profiles etc.
