We went down for a week last year and found it easier to hire a house down there, that way you have some space and are not in everyones pockets 100% of the time.

Do the activities need to include the kids? How old are they.

My 12 and 10 year old enjoyed picking strawberries, a hedge maze and some chocolate shops when I took them down around New Years.
I live here so have no idea of what is a good place to stay though.

Yeah play at Moonah, The dunes, Eagle ridge while the lady and the kids can go to mornington hot spring package, and take the family to Mont Alto Winery, their pinot noir is second to none.

Also at the end of the point there is a national park thingy, like a old fort, kids will probably enjoy.

Don't listen to aym. Eagle Ridge is a blight on the golfing landscape and the worst of its' peers by a wide margin. St Andrews Beach should be #1 of the public access choices. Dunes, Legends, Flinders, Portsea, Sorrento are all good choices.

It goes to show how misguided some raters really are.

I nearly barf each time I stand on the 2nd tee (twice in the last 3 years). I really need to pick mates with better taste than to go to that joint any more.

What Bruce said. Play ST ANDREWS BEACH. Just try not to bat off too much after it.

Geez... ignore all the other ones I mentioned... Eagle ridge is on the way to Moonah and Dunes, not too bad in winter since they have soup and cart special but yes St Andrews Beach is very good.

However golf aside Mont Alto is definitely worth going, and also there is a Maze in mornington...

Another vote for St Andrews, plus its almost always deserted. Moonah Ledgends is way more interesting than the open course. Dunes is next best. Also like Flinders, not as challenging as the others or as long but fabulous views and interesting enough holes. RACV club is a good place to stay, you can also play their course (cape unmentionable) and be tempted by the fabulous Vista of the three courses of the National laid out before you from your balcony.

I played both Moonah tracks and St Andrews over the few days I was there and enjoyed them all. St Andrews and Legends were the pick of the 2 for me.

Some of our group thought St Andrews was a little repetitive, which for me was a strange comment but each to their own.

As for other entertainment options, other than the Rye RSL and pubs I couldn't tell you much!

Sorry aym - I only meant to counter Eagle Ridge and did vote for your other options as well.

How did I forget Cape Schanck!! Excellent value for money if you are an RAC(V/Q) member and the back 9 is very good indeed.

Enjoy your visit to my part of the world. Flinders is nice - very quiet - especially this time. The golf course there is a real challenge.
Pier Ten is a great resturant and not far from where you are staying. Ashcombe Maze and Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm are popular with the kids.
A visit to Cape Schank National Park - where the lighthouse is - is a must. Great coastal walks on the boardwalk.
Peninsula Hot Springs is very popular.
Golf at St Andrews, Moonah Legends, The Dunes and even my home track Rosebud Park is well worth it. I agree with Bruce - forget Eagle Ridge. The pitts of a course!!!
If you need to buy flowers - Rosebud Flowers is the best florist on the Peninsula - but of course I am biased!!!
    Enjoy your trip.

I would put in a recommendation for a hit and giggle at Rosebud Park if you get tired of playing premium tracks too and you're there for a long time. It's not in that class, but there's something enjoyable about playing a course on a hill where every single putt breaks toward the ocean despite the fact that 80% of them look like they are definitely going to break the other way.
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

    Agree,
St AB at least once. Portsea, Dunes, Sorrento, Legends, Open, Shank, Flinders all worth a hit, and depending on your situation, Peninsular has a couple of very nice courses.
