I spent 4 years learning to draw driver. The hook came.It then dawned on me (admit I was slow seeing it )That left is dead on 15 out of 18 holes on our course - the experiment ended promptly when our 3 time club champ says " dave hit your fade and you'll never be in grave danger"HELLO Mr Fade nice seeing ya again!

But what if you are left handed? I think the issue is more that a hook runs into trouble and can't be controlled, a fade can be controlled and doesn't tend to get right into the Bunda as much. Wasn't it Trevino that said "you can talk to a fade but a hook won't listen".

Meh. Its a bit over stated. Opposite to a hook is a slice, not a fade. We've all seen plenty of slices that won't listen. I have an ugly cut in my bag that has cost me many shots.

Yeah I know. They tend to go with more speed. OOB right though is not a friend of a cut.

It doesn't quite work that way... Everything biomechanically is going left... the arc, the club design, the direction, the shaft, everything is rotating left. (for a right hander) This is why the hook goes further, everything wants to go left. This is also why good golfers will be able to turn a ball over with relative ease.

The problem is that a small mistake with a draw is 20m left, a small mistake with a release fade is 5m right. So you can either chip out from shit or have a slightly longer putt. A god awful miss left is about 90m in the shit, where as a slice is usually 40m short and still on the golf course.

You can also be more aggressive with a cut shot, which helps with confidence.

And for those of you who cant hit the cut shot long enough... close the clubface 4 or 5 degrees.

I would kill to be able to hit a fade, my hooks can vary between 20m & 60m

Not quite. I should have clarified that it was the whisperer bit I was the opposite of. Snap hooks off the tee are a once or twice in a blue moon event for me.

Gotta be more, 3 wins last season and 4 so far this season, another Major looks inevitable within the next 12 months.
