    Default 2012 Ozgolf Victorian Matchplay

    2012 Vic Ozgolf Matchplay
    Detail
Annual Ozgolf Matchplay event for the Mexicans. After closing date for interest, Bruce and myself will draw 1st round matches out of the hat. Matches will then be posted here. Round 1 will have a cut off date of. (more than likely end of May, due to the lateness of the draw). Round 2 will consist of all round 1 match winners (if odd number of entries some players may get auto entry to second round i.e. last years winner. Round 2 will have a cut off date of (more than likely end of June). Round 3 will consist of all round 2 match winners (if odd number of entries lucky losers get auto entry to third round) Round 3 will have a cut off date of (more than likely end of September). All subsequent rounds will be determined after final numbers have been confirmed. Format is handicapped matchplay i.e. one player has a handicap of 18 and the opponent has a handicap of 15 then the 18 h'caper will get a shot on the 3 hardest holes. It is advisable to organise golf days in an attempt to get multiple matches completed on the one day, also those new Ozgolf members can get to know other Victorian golfers, (all Interstate Ozgolfers are most welcome to play in these days if they are in town)It is the reponsibility of both players of a match to coordinate the playing of said match. Those players that do not have an official handicap are welcome to play, a handicap must be nominated by them prior to teh match in line with their ability. If a hustler is found within the ranks, I reserve the right to do something REALLY REALLY REALLY humiliating to them.

All Victorian Ozgolfers, who nominate for the annual Matchplay event do so with the understanding that they commit to jointly organise and complete a match with the drawn opponent within the allocated timeframe. If you believe that your commitments, outside of Ozgolf, will not allow the required opportunity to play the match please do not nominate in the first place. If a competitor can show evidence where they have attempted to organise a match, on mulitple occasions, at a perceived convenient time with their opponent without success, the match committee reserves the right to award the match (by walkover) to the competitor that has attempted to organise the match. This is an attempt to get this thing run and won annually. Anything not clear let me know.

Well Larry did turn up at Kingston Heath for our match today. He got off to a good start winning the first hole with a bogey to my double and I promptly got it back to square with a par to Larry's concession after his approach shot which pulled up a couple of metres short of the green was somehow putted into the bunker. This was the continuing story of my front nine as I had 18 points playing off 18 by getting 4 pars, 4 doubles and 1 bogey. This was enough to get me to 2 up at the turn and I ground it out on the back 9 amassing another 18 points and winning the match with a bogey to Larrys double on the 16th green 3 & 2. It was a windy day and Larry's high ball flight (and not playing golf for 2 months) hurt him with marginal balls being blown waaaay off target several times. I was solid without being spectacular and that was enough on the day. Thanks to Firey for hosting and mint & LarryLong for the company a very enjoyable day except for whoever it was that pushed my buggy into the bunker on 18 while I was marking my ball, not cool whoever it was.

Thanks guys, that was an enjoyable day at a great course. I'll be launching an inquiry into how that bunker somehow moved itself directly into the path of my putt just after I had finished lining it up.

Andi was boringly, boringly solid, and this was far too good for my wildly inconsistent game. With two losses in three years, I'm now officially Andi's matchplay bunny.

I was a little disappointed with my game, but the sight of Andi sifting through the sand for his ball markers after his buggy rolled into a bunker cheered me up. Firey may have some pictorial evidence of the day's big highlight.

Thanks Firey for hosting us today! The golf wasn't great by any means but its always great to have a round with you guys ! Larry I think its karma that you kept loosing those yellow balls mate.. a man just is not supposed to use them! haha
Highlights of the day for me have to be the rum .. gee whiz thats nice! There was nothing spectacular that happened on course.. and in fireys words.. "mint you won cause you were the least sh*t!" which is about the most accurate comment of the day! Pleasure guys would happily have another round with you any time!

Thanks for the game guys - Always happy to host (although I would like to win one occasionally).

I would like to take this opportunity to say that it was a classic clash in a monumental see-sawing battle raging across the day.

Having said that, the reality is that Mint was pretty accurate in his assessment that the least shit golfer won on the day. The longer the day went, the worse I got whilst Mint maintained a general level of crappiness throughout and hung on for the win. He should be primed for Round 2.

For the record, the rum in the hip flask was "Ron Zacapa Sistema Solera 23". A classical savory Guatemalan rum.

    As for Andi, well....

The ladies celebrate winning the Nabisco by jumping into the lake next to the 18th green. Not to be outdone, Andi celebrated his win over Larry by losing control of his remote buggy beside the 18th and.......

It's a pity that the photo doesn't show the wheels spinning forlornly waiting for Andi to notice.

We might have to organise a round just for ourselves FlowerGirl. It's been about three weeks since I first messaged rodders without reply. How about we aim for Anzac day at one of the tracks down your way? St Andrew's Beach perhaps?

Brad and I are palying our match on Anzac Day either at St Andrews Beach or The Dunes. Before we make the booking is there anyone that wants to join us for a game? Doesn't matter if it's not a match - it would be good just to catch up. Please let me know by Thursday so I can then make a booking. Cheers guys.

I can probably get a couple of my mates (non OzGolf members) to play to make up a foursome if we cant get anyone else FlowerGirl. Would be better to have some OzGolfers but we are running out of time to book.

FlowerGirl and I have our match all booked in for Anzac day, 10:48 tee off at St Andrews Beach on the Mornington Peninsula. I have a non-ozgolf mate playing as well (in hind-sight the worse decision of my life given how much shit I will be copping off him throughout the round) so we still have one spare spot in the group if anyone is keen to play.

Simply go to the St Andrews Beach website and book online at 10:48 if you are keen and we will see you there.
