yeah, i use the ultimate too, I tracked it for a couple of months and worked out that it cost the same per Km as normal fuel so it seems worth buying - until now!
I remember last time i was in Indonesia petrol was 1/4 or 1/5 of the price it is here. I dunno how much of our petrol is tax but i dont think its that much. Certainly something fishy about the price we pay.
Hey you all in QLD remember we in NSW are paying heaps more plus our GST is subsidising your great quality of life.

I driv e a deisel van for work. Considering deisel is the crap fuel it's been over a dollar for ages. And I get crap mileage too.
In the car I use regular unleaded in town, but got for one of the low octane (or is it high octane) fuels when travelling highway etc. BP ultimate usually. The owner/mechanic at a small servo I sometimes go to told me to not bother with the dearer stuff when just driving around town. Said ,especially in toowoomba, the stop start and short driving times just don't get the benefit of the fuel and you end up chewing up the same amount of fuel for distance as with regular unleaded.
But on the highway he reckons he gets at least 10% more mileage and as it burns hotter it helps clean his engine out once in a while, like using the winns spitfire stuff or something. So if I 'm going travelling then I use the good stuff, especially if it's within 10% more of regular unleaded. I also notice the difference in power on the highway, especially in overtaking.
I paid $1.089 for regular unleaded the other day. Maybe now the people with the 'big donks' will wake up & see how inefficient their cars really are.
BP now has 3 forms of unleaded...
regular - about 90% Octane
Premium - about 93% Octane &
Ultimate - about 98% Octane.
My Ford Fairmont Ghia has never had anything but Ultimate since day 1 (had a log book from the previous owner to prove it, but lost it ). I find the car runs better and accellerates better when over taking. I drive over 100km's every day so I need the Ultimate but damn.... $70 a tank... Althogh I do get around 560 - 600 km's per Tank..... I always found the middle of the week is the best time to fill up...

Time for a smaller car eh Keza?? I get 550-600kms to a tank in the 1.6 litre Corolla, but it only costs $40 to fill up.... My neighbour's 1.8 Astra gets 700 kms to a $50 tank....Originally Posted by Keza_G

Paid $70 for a tank of fuel for the first time the other day. It was a special moment.
Was $1.229/L in Swan Hill the other day for regular unleaded. I usually fill up with either Vortex or Ultimate, but my mechanic steered me away from Optimax.
When there was 5 cents difference between the regular and premium unleaded I worked out I was better off with the premium. Now I'm not so sure, but at least it is better for my car.
We pay $1.17 at the moment - and we own a service station
We are retailing for $1.23 - most Melb. servos are $1.25 for ULP. Price will drop to wholesale price within three days - meaning the big boy bozos will be selling for less than our cost price. By the time you then take the credit card commission of our profit margin - think I might stop the rant before I get mad
The barrell did drop overnight.
We have been in the fuel industry for over 16 years and still can't figure it out

Whats the go with gas? at the station today i saw its only 47c per litre and the last guy to refill paid only $17
apart from the obvious conversion or capital cost, how much gas does a car use, someone told me Gas uses twice as much per K as fuel therefore the saving is not that much.
Gas doesn't produce the power that you get from (unleaded) fuel, so doing your day-to-day isn't very efficient at all.. and 47c a litre is ridiculously expensive. Usually hovers around the high 30's??
Lucy Harris smart smart smart, Martin Harris dumb.
not as ridiculusly expensive as petrol at $1.20 when its usually been around $0.70Originally Posted by Fishman Dan

I remember high 80s but never 70. That may be because I was living in the highest price place in Victoria at the time it was that low in the cities.
qld has always had the cheapest fuel prices, so yes, 70c was around about right.
when i arrived here in 98, petrol in nsw was 80c here it was 54c
