Petrol is pretty expensive, but it doesn't seem to deter people from buying large cars and SUV's...

My fuel efficient little rice rocket just cost me $700 for a new clutch this week, so fuel is the least of my worries...

Bring on the age of Lithium battery powered cars!!

I do a 65 km round trip to work. As a shift worker public transport is not an option. So the car is the only method of transport to and from work.

Just saw 139.9 ay my usual cheap servo. Guess it would be well over 140 in most parts of Sydney now.

One of teh oil company CEO's was quoted on the radio news, "Deal with it, fuel is dear and it will stay so". If it was that much lower not long ago 110-120, and oil has gone up only in the recent past. Were the Oil Companies losing money? It seems they were or else the instant price rises are just profiteering and scare mongering by them.

Dan I agree but if it does get cheaper than the silly 1.40+ of last week it is cheap.

Just got back from NZ last week. It was $1.709 a litre. Interestingly the price was unchanged the whole week we were there. And diesel was cheaper than here at 1.259 a litre.

Well, this is the situation in my part of Australia as far as fuel pricing goes.

    Noosa , $1.30 a litre average.

    Nambour , 20km west of Noosa , $1.21 .

This was in the Noosa news [local newspaper] , because Noosa is a tourist destination , holiday makers don't shop around and just pay the price as they are on holidays.

    What a ****in joke.

More evidence of profiteering by oil companies, I went to get petrol last night on my way home. Local servo was 139.9 thought well it can't get much dearer I had a drive and see what the others in the area are like. THey were all 139.9. I never bothered filling up. THis morning I dropped Tayla to daycare and the same servo was 126.9. The surrounding stations were also 126.9. Why can't anyone do anything about the price fixing/profiteering by the oil companies?

Grant, i have 3 servos near my place, all on the same stretch of road.

First one is a Shell, second is a BP and the third is a Caltex. It's not uncommon to drive past them and see three very different prices

Does not happen like that here in Sydney. In a 5 or 6 km circle of my place the price may only differ by 1 or 2 cents max.

The cheapest day keeps changing - if I need to buy petrol, I'll always check www.motormouth.com.au and find the cheapest price either around where I live or where I'm driving to.

Wish I could shop around, with the lease car I have to get my fuel from either Ampol or Caltex. It is because of Fuel being included in running costs, I have signed for 3 years @ 1.50/Litre. I get back what I don't spend every FBT year, so it still pays for me to get it cheaper whenever I can.
