    Default SQLD Matchplay Previews

    Some big matches coming up.

    Daves v PeteyD

With Dickie sitting in the box seat in Div 1 after 2 wins, these two will be trying to re-iginite their campaigns on Friday around Brisbane Golf Course. The winner will join Dickie in the top 2 ... the loser will face a tough battle to get into the quarter finals.

Why Dave - Experience around Brisbane, having played there just 3 weeks ago. Plus .. the course is set to be set-up super tough, which might help him.

Why PeteyD - He's still fresh, coming off injury, so no bad swing thoughts. Plus ... he'll get plenty of shots.

My Verdict ... Daves in a close one.

    Ferrins v Pete the Pilot

PTP makes his first appearance against a Ferret with a 100% record.

Why Ferrins - On a high (normal) from his win over Nudgee and looking to the top 2 with a win. Plus - he's getting a few shots that he wont be accustom to.

Why PTP - Nothing beats quality. And PTP plays the tough courses well

My verdict - quality might get beaten here.

    Marto v Nudgee

Everyone in Div 3 wants to take on the big fish at the moment. The Spanish Mackerel is finding life as the Ozgolf Champ very tough. But Jarro may have played the big fella into form when he blew the last two holes at Nudgee yesterday.

Why Marto - Home track. He'll be looking for his putting touch to come back after the super quick in Melbourne and the slow at Nudgee. He's 2 from 2 and a win will make the quarter finals all that much closer.

Why Nudgee - He's getting 4 shots. His back is to the wall, and thats when he plays his best golf.

My verdict ... too close to call.

    3W - RBZ
    Hybrids - Titleist 913 17 and 22 deg.
    Irons - Ping I5's
    Wedges - Titleist Oilcan
    Putter - Rife Deep Blue

Having played a bit with both these gentleman of late it will be a good match up. Dave has game, and if his driver is on and a few putts roll in he will be hard to beat. Petey on the other hand is starting to find his groove, his ball striking at reddie was as impressive as I have seen from him. Terribly consistent around the greens, and my dark horse for the div 1 places up for grabs. My verdict, Petey in a close one...

    Peter_RS vs BrisVegas - Sun 15/1

Giving Pete 8 shots around Nudgee.... There could be a new 8&7 banner in this. My best chance for avoiding the banner is for pete to hit it in the water on the first 3 holes. In saying that, I've been in the dam on the 1st in most of my previous rounds there. Last Nudgee Plate, I missed the dam for the first time in ages, but then 3-jagged it. Hopefully a 5 is good enough for a half. I play the back 9 ok, if I can survive that long.

    Damocow Hcp 17 v Ronny Hcp 19 @ Keperra 15/1

Virgin Ozgolf tournament for me so both going in blind on how each other plays. Advantage to Damo as we are on his home track. I've played Keperra a few times so the course isn't totally foreign to me.

No real Matchplay experience for me so the question "How early before the sledging can begin??"

PTP will grind me down with his smooth swing and irritating niceness.

    MTB v Jaybam................

MTB old timer from way back, had a Pennants Career at one time but has now realised that there are too many 15 year olds that can kick his butt.

Jaybam, skinny little white guy thats hits a reasonable distance with his new found Cleveland power, has issues with the flat blade at times. He's from Ipswich.

Maza and Newy will be on hand to witness the fight at Hills GC on Easter Monday. Lets make it clean lads, no kicking punching or biting!

    Played the hills on Friday.
Best condition I've seen it in, the greens are in really good nick.
Do need to carry a second bucket of sand though, as the bunkers are BYO sand.
    Enjoy the day gentlemen.

Played it yesterday, greens had not been mown in a while and were sloooow! Some bunkers are pretending to be Bondi Beach, some the Black Swamp, and others the Simpson Desert. 6 wedges would just about cover the bunker shot options I reckon.
