Default Played first ever comp on weekend and ended up with a rubbish stableford score...

....so I'm just looking for some love from the ozgolf community

Does anyone care to post their worst ever stableford score so that I feel better by knowing that I'm not alone? Also how long did it take you to re-bound from that low point and post a decent score?

I was doing well for the first 6 holes and actually keeping pace with my more experienced playing partners but once I realised that I hadn't yet had to wipe a hole it all went down hill. Once I started wiping holes I starting losing confidence in my swing and ability and the round turned into a train wreck.

    Please make me feel better.

    So, last weekend.
5 points in the first 9 holes. 5 wipes in a row, 5 balls in hazards or OOB. Was playing like a champ (read= ready to snap a club).

Got a drink, chilled for a minute after the 9, forgot about the round, and started again. Came home with 19 points for the 9 including a birdie on the last.

It happens, just gotto roll with it sometimes...

I once shot 163 off the stick.

It was my first 18 holes. I was 7 years old.

17 is my worst, but there has definitely been worse on this forum. I just dismissed it as a once off and moved on.

I will make you feel good buddy....

First time at the ozgolf champs last year and my first ozgolf event. Had 17 points total on Saturday. Went to the pub, got drunk and managed 37points the next day. It is golf, enter all the funny quotes about ruining a good walk etc etc etc here.

Blame the equipment, and get some new stuff.

Congrats on your first comp round.

I tend to focus on the positives, such as six holes without a wipe. So, have your goal next weekend to have seven holes on each nine, without a wipe. (The world won't end with a couple of wipes on each nine.)

Also look at your fluid intake and dehydration. Take a bottle of water/softdrink/etc. in your bag. Have a drink after every couple of holes to finish it over the front nine> Fill it at halfway and ditto for the second nine.

I think I probably have the worst score... (certainly the worst score I've seen from anyone so far).
12 points in comp at Hervey Bay. 10 points front, 2 back.
My lame excuses are as follows!
Just had lessons, so still trying to get used to new swing
Just bought new clubs, left my driver at home and was hitting my 3wood less distance than my 4 year old (and the course is pretty long)
Started to absolutely piss down with rain on the 11th, no wet weather gear no towel no all weather glove. Couldnt even swing without the club flying out my hands most of the time!
I am bad. Wiped 10 holes in a row from the 8th-17th.

The other 2 locals I played with asked a few times if I wanted to just quit and walk off. Probably should have!
Anyway, the good news is that my next 3 rounds after that (albeit on my home course in dry conditions) were a lot better!
So keep it up and it will turn around!

Lol cos it said played first ever comp and ended up with a rubbish score and I just thought of iGolf. Maybe if he hits 3 woods 220m into an 8 foot circle its 2 points. Inside 4 feet 3 points etc.

I had 99 gross, 91 nett in my club champs in 2010. That was after a couple of solid rounds in the low 80's. Golf can be very humbling at times.

Yep, I has a 98/86 earleir in the year (equal to 22 points) and the very next round on the same course shot 20 shots better! That's golf.

My worst stableford score is 12 points off a 22 'cap. Perfect conditions for golf, just forgot how to hit the ball. Day one of a two day comp. Came back the next day and scored 28 or 29 points. Best 28 or 29 I have ever scored in my life

Still the NAGA prizes were not that bad, helped salve the wounds a little!

First ever comp after getting my 3 cards in was a 31 pointer, which given that 36 won the day, was not so bad.

3 comps later represented the low point - 19 points off a 23 handicap - but still managed to avoid the NAGA, as 14 got the NAGA, and 35 won on the day!

I must play difficult courses. Either that or I'm crap.

    The courses aren't THAT hard

AG, my worst ever were two back to back games at the Ozgolf champs a few months back. Not a golflink comp but still comp rules and I tried as hard as I would in a comp. Had something like 21 and 23 points, playing off 8 or 9. I was also in the middle of a swing change.

Last Saturday I won the A grade medal, now off 6. My last three games have been 4,5,6 over par with shots left out there.(but also some luck received). All evens out doesn't it.

I was looking through my almost 3 years of golflink stats the other day and there is some interesting stuff. I got to single figures after playing for a year, got 3 shots better on the cap in 2 years even though I play a lot better but play at a harder course. My worst run of not playing to or beating the cap was 17 games in a row. The biggest difference in score between two rounds was 19. 2 over in one comp to 21 over a week later.

If your newish to golf expect more of the same, but you'll get plenty of highlights along the way. I still often think why we put ourselves through it. A couple of months ago around the ozgolf champs I walked off after 9 after having 10 or so points. Was disgusted with myself and vowed never to do it again. It's golf and it'll bite you one game and kiss you the next.

I've also recently learnt that the less I care about the score the better I play.

I have had 100+ net playing off 5. Most of that score attributed to just 3 out of 4 consecutive holes played in 24 over par. All short fours with OB right and stubborn refusal to aim left no matter the consequence. I should have got a medal.

I bet ParMaster has worse. At one point, he had a 180 gross on his GolfLink history.

Then again, GolfLink was created just to make his life hell.

ps. I went back through my GolfLink and had a dozen rounds of 23 over. For some unknown reason, I hit the wall at 23 over, irrespective of playing off 8 or 13.
Then about to drop off are a couple of 25 overs and a 29 over - 100 net 88, four years ago.

pps. And to beat Matty's claim, I shot a 77 (6 over) the next game for a 23 shot swing.

Playing like a busted is like death and taxes, unavoidable. Record low I know is 5 points at Bonville, i am presuming you beat that.

I reckon its always better to have a small bet, we play 5/5/10. Whilst you are on your way to some low 20s number (or worse) you keep trying because you have a partner and there is some bragging rights to be had.
I had 39 the other week and lost the fourball cash to a mate off 28 who finished with a 4 pointer on his way to compiling an 8/15, 23 point round. Played like a chopper but took something away. Better still he got to have a few beers on my account whilst I grumbled on about the inequity of 4balls for lower markers thereby adding to his enjoyment.
