8 is not really short Benje as the penalty for an errant drive is huge! The skyline green playing into the prevailing wind adds to the length.
    Interesting approach shot though!

He is looking forward to the Royal Sydney rebuild.

PS My bad - I referred to #4 as a short 4, you are correct, it is #3. And, gosh #8 plays long.
Nice one Benje. I've been told that Elanora is the course Royal Sydney members play on weekends when they go to their holiday homes at Palm Beach and Whale Beach. Tough life, right?

8 played pretty easy in Monday. I'm sure it was 4i and GW.

NE is the prevailing breeze, certainly all summer, the hole runs N to S. Did you have the instrument panel upside down.

Still threatening to come down to Tassie, a mate is in the process of moving from Paris to Port Huon so that will be an interesting transition.

Mr Bluu - hahaha, probably a bunt with a 4-iron at that.

I understand Elanora was built by Royal Sydney members as their 'other' course near their summer homes.

PTP -I think 8 is a fine hole with a skyline green which gets you to the view on 9 tee (as 16 gets you to the 17 tee view).
My point of agreement with others is that, as a collective group of short 4's and par 5's, only #11 plays 'short', all the others play 'long'.
It is a tough run of holes from 6 through 10.

I didn't think the short holes played long but one or two of them could become a drivable hole then the course would be more fun to play. Same with one or 2 of the par 5's.

Also found out today that Dan Soutar, original architect of Elanora was also the first architect at Maryborough. It shows, since they are basically same-same.

Maryborough should be reciprocal with Elanora.

I hope he improved after designing the 10th green complex at Maryborough.

I really enjoyed Maryborough. I find most modern architects are obsessed with strategy and penalty but something I think the old architects understood was seeing the ball in flight and creating deception through the use of valleys and crests. Maryborough has a lot of shots where the ball hangs in the air or disappears over a crest. Lots of fun.
