Titleist, how did it go, I want to like Elanora more than I do. Hope you didn't get caught on the anklet sock thing.

I rely on invites mate . . . Just amazing conditioned course.

Lots of rich bastards and very little traffic. Great Pro too.

    Ok guys, quick wrap up!
Played yesty in their invitational 2ball day (they very rarely have these so was lucky).
Cost me nothing so all good there!
They had a pro-am there not long ago so course was in mickey mouse condition, BUT, they had recently scarified the fairways (yes late in the season because of the pro-am), but there was 30cm pref lies, so no biggie there.
Course is a fantastic track, was 3-4 years since I've played it so couldn't remember how good it was!
Started on the 10th and could not buy a fairway so then resorted to hitting my 4wood of the tee for most of the afternoon, and killed it.
Lots of shortish par 4's, and you need to really position your drives as fairways are heavily bunkered.
We finished with 44pts, really should have had 47/48 , winners had 49 so not too far behind.
Couple of brews after, i love how staff call you Mr.... and they don't pay for anything, just sign a tab....
Not a very snobby club compared to the Lakes/Aussie etc... considering there are members there with more money you can think of!
If anyone in Sydney ever gets a chance to play there, do not pass it up, you will regret it!

Good stuff, unfortunate about the fairways but I guess it is that time of year. You were lucky to play in a comp, normally they have some sort of weird, drop a ball into the pro and go in the comp if you want.

Review by former ozgolfer is above.

Virge, not sure on 17, I probably prefer the other par 3s. The par 5s are relatively weak, particularly 2 and 11 however there are a lot of cracking holes. 18 is my favourite.

Ha, thats Pup's review on it!
Didn't get stumped by the short sock rule as i knew and whore pants!
Plenty of others did, as i saw a lot of younger guys sporting new white socks with the club logo on them!!
Fairways where still pretty good, and greens where pure, i really enjoyed it.

I was lucky enough to play it day. What a fantastic course and and it was in great condition as well!! I couldn't hit the driver to save my life today, but was able to get around hitting a lot of irons and hybrids off the tee.

    Hi Bluboy,
I played there a number of years ago with Jono, Eca and ?

Thought it was a really enjoyable course with a very hard finish.
#16 seems to go forever uphill to the green.

    conditioning is outstanding.
A couple of quirky shots - 4th tee shot and the doglegs on 6 are 'tight'.
The short uphill par 4's play anything but short.
Lovely views to the coast, and cool breezes.
    Well worth a visit IMO

I did a full review of it on ‘TGF’ Benje!
I liked it a lot and would happily play it weekly, although the old buggers must hate the walk up 16.

I played it yesterday as well, and was thoroughly impressed with the facility. There was a lot of variety in the holes, and the backdrop of the rocky outcrops was a really cool change. I was talking to Bluu about it, but maybe a truly drivable par 4, or a shorter par 5 might have been nice.

I can't think of anywhere I have played that was conditioned tee to green so well either - maybe the Grand or the Australian might come close.

That's what I forgot to add in my write up. As much as I loved the course and there wasn't any bad or even average holes, I just thought it lacked the fun factor of a hole or 2 that you can really have a crack at.

Petethepilot -sorry, I can't recall the writeup. I guess it has gone into the ether now. Elanora did surprise me

Others - Elanora conditioning is as good as I have seen in Australia over the last two years. It comes at a price of course.
They have recently done some tree/shrub/scrub removal which has exposed the rocky outcrops again.
The views from 9 tee and 17 tee re superb.
I agree it is disappointing the par 5's and the short 4's all play so long. 11 is the exception.

    Benje,
I quite liked the 2 short 4’s up the hill (3 and 13). Both had interesting greens!
3 sloped front to back and left.
13 had a big swale in it.
The greens very much complicated the approach shot/pitch.
Different pin positions pose different problems!

18 is a tough finish especially with a back pin.

IMHO, It is in the top handful of courses in Sydney...not the best but very good.

Pete - I played with a guy who is also a member at Royal Sydney (not an uncommon combination of memberships apparently).

He regards Elanora more highly than Royal Sydney - not sure how much of that is due to the conditioning.
He is looking forward to the Royal Sydney rebuild.

    Benje

PS My bad - I referred to #4 as a short 4, you are correct, it is #3. And, gosh #8 plays long.
