Does anyone really use this to check out a persons professional profile?
In a word - hell yes. (I know, that's two)

From linked in alone, I have 8 job offers alone since January, as well as expanded my network to the point where at least my name is well known where I want it to be.

Having said that, my industry relies very very heavily on networking, and is quite a personable one.

I would recommend getting involved in it as much as possible. Forget Facebook, twitter and all the other BS, as a professional, this is the networking tool you need.

My inability to complete even the smallest of home DIY jobs with cutting my thumb with a saw and basically cocking the majority of the project up.

I clearly got no skills what-so-ever from my old man (a builder for 40 years and still going strong).

Between this and the wardrobe thread I may as well just hand in my man card right now.
