Thinking of having a go at swapping shafts in some irons. Can I use 24 hour epoxy from bunnings, or should I get proper golf stuff? - or should I just get someone to do it for me?

24hr araldite is perfectly fine. It's what we use in the shop. Wouldnt recommend any of the faster curing Araldite though.

Thanks, that agrees with what I've read, but wanted to check. How important are those alignment beads?

Not very. You're better off using a very fine sprinkle of the sand they use in non slip paint. Sprinkle it on the shaft tip after you've applied the epoxy. And thats only required if the isnt firm as is. I only use it on about 25% of my builds.

    MOI question.

if we cut down 1/2" off the shaft length, what will the effect on MOI be roughly, and in which direction?
the club is currently at 2705, D2 and about between 39.75 and 40" long

From my before and after data, One inch of length is +/- 150/160Kg/Cm2. So half an inch off should be about -75/80 i.e. 2625 to 2630

Thanks Dave... i am just looking at ways to narrow the large gap between my 4 iron and hybrid.

Was listening to Wishon and he suggests setting up the hybrid with exactly the same progression of loft/length from the previous iron, noting the hotter face would be an increase in the gapping.

What do you prefer to do to bridge iron to hybrid?
As it seems not easy to find hybrid head at the correct weight. Looking at some OEM specs their hybrids are much longer than relative irons indicating lighter headweights.

I usually just build them to the same MOI. The Hybrid often ends up a couple of progressions longer, depending on the weight of the shaft. The upside is it is easier to grip down, which enables me to adjust flight and/or gapping when needed.

Thats a good point... apparently I should be competent enough to be versatile with hybrid, but recent experiences on Hope Island 17 suggest otherwise

carrying it was a doddle, played a little downwind. That wasnt the problem, but trying to finesse a hybird one club shorter was beyond my skill level.

the new 9th is actually more intimidating than 17, more exposed to wind and no bailout area, not even from the dropzone. It also slopes from front to back and you cant really see much of the green from the tee.

if anyone has a library of clubmaking notes could you let me know what is the head weight of a Cobra Hybrid, latest model that you have. Preferably a 21d if not, whatever you have because I can extrapolate from that.
I have a new 21D Radspeed on its way, and like every good ozgolfer the first thing i am gonna do is pull it apart.

I just finished building up my first set from scratch.

    Specs:
Callaway Apex CF16 Forged 4-P heads (0.370 parallel)
Nippon Modus 3 105 reg shafts (0.355 taper) 1/2 inch over
    Golf Pride Align Midsize grips
    Black ferrules
    0.355 to 0.370 shims
    24 hour epoxy

For gripping I went the double sided tape and white spirits route as I still don't have an air compressor. I bought the double sided tape from Bunnings and it may have been a little too strong as I sacrificed a few grips due to only getting half the grip on before it 'set' and couldn't push it on any further. I think I just didn't have enough white spirits on the inside of the grip and double sided tape although I was actively trying to drench both. I also went with 4 wraps combined with the midsize grips so the fit was tight to start with which probably didn't help.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how they turned out and with the thicker grips they feel super comfy in the hands. Will test them during the week. Hopefully no heads will be flying down the fairway.

Ryobi One+ 18v Inflator/Deflator works a treat for me. (Same battery covers a lot of tools in the garage.)

I also use Bunnings sourced Bear brand double-sided tape, but only a single strip around the top 38mm (over a grip length of masking tape). Works good with turps.

I was so annoyed. Shed a tear for every grip I ruined.

I used the same tape but 48mm version along 90% of the grip. What's the minimum sized air compressor you would recommend? I don't want a big one. Space is at a premium in my shed.

Thanks Dotty, I run all Ozito power exchange tools/batteries and it appears they make a very similar one to the Ryobi. I'll investigate.

I like those align grips - one came on a driver shaft I bought a while back, which wasn't great as it only really works with a single loft setting in an adjustable club.

I installed a grip for the first time today too - just cut the old one off as I didn't need to save it. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Would have thought these not powerful enough to put grips on? Specs is 150psi, but from memory most inflators output airflow in pulses rather than sustained. I see Ozito has a similar product slightly cheaper.
