Default The "Ask a Clubmaker" Thread

Plain old masking tape (thanks work) and Hair Spray.
    Forgot to mention compressed air.
No sticky grip tapes required here.

I use standard grips with 3 layers of masking tape. A bit of solvent + air to blow them on, they don't move. Easy to take off again too. I used to use double sided tape, but stopped - needed more solvent, and more fiddly.

    Interesting.
Always assumed that double sided tape was a "must do"

Thanks all for the advice thus far!

Normal masking tape and an air compressor. Geip tape is a pain if you change/move grips a lot.

    Hey All
What epoxy is everyone using from Bunnings?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-...-glue_p1230038

Thinking of using this to put 2 x wedges together.

    Thoughts?

The selleys 24hr epoxy is fine for steel shafts, I don't use it for graphite shafts as it requires to much heat to pull a shaft and I don't want to damage the shaft, no such issues with steel shafts.

Acts as a bit of a lubricant when wet, then provides additional stick when it dries (but not enough to prevent a compressor from easily removing the grip). It's especially helpful on grips that have been switched between a few clubs and are starting to stretch or lose their shape.

Is there anything from Bunnings that's suitable for graphite?

FWIW I use the same epoxy for both steel and graphite shafts, without a problem.

I have glued up and extracted, lots and lots and lots of both, without issue

I find if you are using a torch to heat the head during a graphite pull, Bunnings 24hr epoxy is fine. Can be a ball ache with a heat gun.

I have used the Selleys 24hr before on graphite, and removed and reused the shafts without issue, but the margin for error is a lot lower.

I use a heat gun and with the Selleys 24hr it would sometimes take 2+ minutes of heating up before the epoxy would give, with the Dynacraft High Impact epoxy I use now it takes about 20-30secs, much safer especially for me at the time as I was switching shafts alot.

So if your not to worried about pulling the shaft later or multiple times, like me, the Selleys 24hr epoxy will work with no problem, it's probably stronger than you need.

A question for the knowledgeable. I've recently decided I wanted to add a 60 degree wedge to my bag. I have a Ping Glide 4.0 56S. So I wanted to get a Ping Glide 4.0 60S. However Ping have sold out of them and are now selling their new line. I can get a standard 60S from a US retailer. However the shaft in my 56S is 2" longer than standard. And Australian retailers are telling me that it would be hard to know what the correct swing weight would be to match my 56 if I tried to source the matching head and the shaft and have it built. One even suggested that the head would be a different head to match the fact that I have 2' more shaft. So my question is. If I was to order a 'standard' head from the US and have an Australian retailer get the same shaft in for me, will I end up with the same set up as my 56 or do I really need to go through Ping and get them to make the club so it will definitely be the same as my 56 but with the new head?

I beleive Ping dont have differnt heads to get desired swingweight.

The plastic insert in the back is weigghted, they just use the right one to get the swingweight spot on. In the assembly line those weights come in 0.1 gram increments from memory. Only Ping is gonna have these inserts on hand

If you wanna add 2 inches, then its either gonna be 12 SW points heavier, or you need to remove 24 grams from the head ( if my math is correct). You really going to need an expert to build that for you, otherwise its just going to be ugly.

So going by this your initial 56* was a special order from Ping? If so your serial number would give the specs.

American Golf Supplies are the Australian distributor and have been great to deal with for me every time. I would give them a ring. If your wedges were special order they should be able to give you specs per the serial number and you could also discuss what your chances are of getting a 60* 4.0 made to order. They should be a lot more helpful than the retailers. If you have no chance of getting a 4.0 at least you will know where you stand. The S159's drop in a week or so and omg is that Midnight finish hawt.
