Going to try re gripping my clubs for the first time, read and watched a few tutorials that say either get grip solvent or mineral spirits.
Was wondering could I just use methylated spirits? Also would it be worth trying with air as I have a compressor handy?
What's the best way in your opinion..
Cheers.
Hi,
I'm old and old fashioned, I still like the Bostik 1222 Rubber Gum and masking tape, I have progressed to using air compressor to remove grips.
BTW, if you find original grips (using double sided sticky tape) are almost impossible to remove using air, heat the grip using a hair dryer or heat gun making sure you move the hot air, then use a PVC tube over grip to prevent blowouts. Blowouts really PI$$ me off, never know when it will happen and the noise is so bad I think it's caused my tinnitus (high pitch ringing in the ears).
Kind Regards, Ken

Hi,
I retired at 52 and now do club making as a hobby so my overheads are next to nothing.
I normally charge my clients around $50 to build a set of irons, this includes swing weighting, spining or FLO as appropriate. This usually includes a chart of head weights, initial swing weight and finished SW.
Drivers/hybrids etc. around $10 each, includes swing weighting, spining or FLO as appropriate.
Kind Regards, Ken

Badzy if you are local to me (Ormond), even if you aren't but would like some guidance, feel free to pop around to my workshop and I will give you a demo on putting on and taking off grips with a compressor.
And like Lipout I use WD40 too.

Nothing finer than going into the supermarket for clubmaking supplies - hairspray, nail polish, and nail polish remover. They never believe me that I make golf clubs...
Plus Cotton Balls, Paper Towel and Wipes to name a few more things you can get at your local Supermarket. I use the non Acetone Nail Polish Remover, I find it isn't as harsh and is a little bit easier to work with on Paint Fill etc.
There are plenty of other cheap items you can use/collect. I use The Cardboard Separators out boxes of Beer or Coke as my Epoxy mixing sheets. I bought a big pack of Paddle Pop sticks for next to nothing from Crazy Clarks (Craft section), that I use to mix the Epoxy. Buy some cheap marking pens while you are there as well.
To swing weight clubs before gluing I have a collection of old split grips of various weights that I have weighed and labelled. I also have a collection of old split grips that I have cut up into pieces weighing between 2 and 10 grams to do the fine tuning to match what ever grip I am planning to use. Between these and a collection of tip weights, I find getting SWs right is a pretty quick and straightforward process.

So I have a shaft and a Nike adapter that I want to chuck on it. Will a knob like me be able to glue it on with only supplies from the local Bunnings?
Daves, do you know anywhere locally to buy steel shaft extenders, or do you have a fave seller?
