    Thanks guys, split grip it is.

    Wet weather has kicked me into action to finally get going on doing some club building work. I pulled my first steel shafts yesterday and all went well. Used my Roberts shaft puller and a Heat Gun, one set of 710 CB heads now ready for reshafting. I used a mini Butane torch to remove the tip weights and the old shafts are all cleaned up, measured and marked for future reference. I pulled my first graphite shaft tonight, again using the Roberts and Heat Gun. No dramas, even managed to save the ferrule using some boiling water (as I didn't have a replacement). New shaft installed and glued (RBZ 3 wood), hopefully I will get to test it on Monday.

    Apparently the glued are not available in store, is there anyone playing this model

    Now your troubles begin!

    Here's another quick tip...when removing steel shafts to re-use, an easy way to remove stubborn tip weights is to hold the shaft in a clamp and heat the tip end where the weight is. Use a long steel rod of narrower diameter then a shaft tip, insert down the butt end and tap with a hammer. The weight should pop out the end. (NOTE: DO NOT CATCH THE TIP WEIGHT!)

    Thanks TF, that is the method I used after talking to perci. I made a makeshift ramrod out of a couple of lengths of threaded rod. Will see if I can pick up a more suitable length of rod from a metal shop.

    So is it worthwhile spining steel shafts, or just assume the seam is the spine?

    This is a club measuring board I made up last week, based on a House of Perci design. It takes left or right handed clubs the same way, drop the shaft into the slots and slide down until it hits the bumper. It measures woods, irons and putters, the advantage of using the shaft line to position it;

    Thanks Chappy, amazing how productive you can be when it is raining and playing Golf is off the agenda. Here are a couple of Ramrods I made up today for cleaning out shafts. The Larger one is a length (about 1.25m) of 6mm rod for steel shafts. The other is a similar length of 8 gauge wire (about 3.25mm diameter), for cleaning out graphite shafts. The wire would probably work on steel shafts too, but hey I had time on my hands and the materials to do it!

    Cleaning out some steel shaft today and they had these plastic plugs in them, any idea what they are, why they are used?

    They are used for very light swingweight adjustments.

    Here's a tip for graphite shafts...use a VERY thin drill bit and gently drill out the end of the graphite shaft. Usually, it is merely an epoxy plug and is no big deal to drill. Then just use compressed air to blow the blockage out the butt end. You will have to remove the grip and tape to do this...and don't point it at the cat when you fire it!
