I think it something like 0.4mm that the diameter needs to come down by and have read that it can be done too. I'd imagine that over-prepping the shaft tip might just achieve the 0.4mm reduction you're after but I'm no expert either!

Hi folks,
Need a bit of assistance for a colleague who's a baller, stands at 6ft9" and isn't too keen on dropping large sums on a set of sticks, but his current ones are home made and it's like watching hunchback of notre dame on address, it's just too small for him. Went to golfbox for mizuno fitting, they didn't have anything for him to even try for his size, said they'd do a custom order for +2.5" length and about 2 degree bent. They're asking about $850 for the jpx 850's on S300 shafts - and wanting paid upfront without even testing it out!!!
Anyone have any suggestions on how he can get a decent set for that size without dropping 800+ on a set? There's no way he'll play often enough to justify this expense, probably $500 max?
Would it be a really bad idea to extend a shaft on a basic adams set like this:

I know swing weight etc will be outta whack, but I'm running out of ideas on how to keep within budget on a custom set of that size! Anything on ebay I can investigate? Almost anything will be better than what he has...
Thanks guys - appreciate any feedback
+2.5" seems a tad excessive, even for a 6'9" er. Does he have short arms? I would interested to know what his wrist to ground measurement is? Also what is his build?
I have built sets up to +1.5" for myself without an issue (SW at around D6), but another inch would be problematic I would think.
Do I or dont I need to get these bent. They came off ok and I make swing adjustments to hold it online if needed. Any thaughts ?

I know I need to hit it better!
Your a flusher (so ive heard) you could hit anything well...
Is that what the sheep nuggets look like when used for practice?

There's a very helpful vid that Steve Elkington did that shows a quick method of checking lies...I'll find it and post a link later but it involves a straight line on the back of the ball with a marker pen and checking the mark it leaves on the clubface.
KJ I'd be interested in seeing it

Can't remember if it was ever posted here, but I was reading some stuff on dynamic lie angles and came across it.
That's great KJ and, whilst a fairly simplistic approach, as long as you have a suitable hitting net/area, some impact tape and L&L machine proximate this should take some guess work out.
The only difference would be Elks ability to have a repeatable swing, versus my ability to not!!

It might not seem like it, but I find this one of the most useful toys I have in the workshop;

Great for checking and verifying grip and shaft alignment, and face angles etc at address. Also very handy for checking your alignment at set up, and identifying club path options/angles.
Quick question. Can someone tell me how to calculate the change in torque, without a machine, if a driver shaft is tipped 1 1/4"? And how much decrease in spin and launch angle I would achieve and how much flex stiffer it makes it. I have a 55 gram R flex shaft and looking to increase the CPM.
I'm not aware of a set formula you can use Fore, where are you located?
