Got a 6 pack of Monteith's xpa for $13 at dans. Not a bad beer for the price, but wont be rushing back for more.

I had 129 unique beers in 33 days on my recent European trip. That's some quality beer collecting.

That is an impressive effort. Bet there were some quality beers in there.

Definitely. Some ordinary ones too, but mostly good craft beer.

New brewery opened in Oxford St Bulimba last week. Malt Brewing (subject to a name change as a big company says it infringes on their Malt Shovel trade mark).

Tried the range....definitely loved the Pail IPA although its a damn big beer at 7.5%. Oatmeal Stout is also another stellar beer.

    Black IPA wasnt for me.

One of the owners works in my office....great young team with a vision - tasty pizza too from a kick ass Forno Bravo oven.
    Cheers

Nice one, Hux. There are so many new breweries around now. I'm waiting for some sort of saturation point, but hopefully they keep digging into the big guy's market share.

As for the name change, Kirin (Malt Shovel) shouldn't have a case over a word for something that is actually used in beer, but I get the feeling it might be less costly for Malt Brewing just to avoid the courts and change name.

Once they keep digging into the big guys shares, the big guys just come along and make them an offer they can't say no to and get their market share back

Yeah and Vale brewing, although they only sold to Bickfords. Pirate life sold because they wanted to expand and no one would invest, even the SA government.

I have always known them to be at Regency. Never knew they were at Leabrook.

Stanley st was the back of the brewery, very very leafy suburb for a brewery.

I think Pirate Life was built to sell - its not a small brewery that just got bigger is it?. I wonder if Newstead is setting itself up as a sale - its massive new production facility at Milton makes it ripe for a large company who wants to sell to a broader market.
I dont think their beer is as nice as Pirate Life though.

I read that as well. The plan was to sell all along

It always seemed like Pirate Life marketed themselves hard and had distribution across the whole country very quickly. There must have been some decent money behind it in the first place.

Newstead will not be selling. Here's a blog entry form the owner earlier this year.
    https://newsteadbrewing.com.au/pwned/

Newstead's core beers are meant for the masses, so maybe not as nice to some who crave a bit more in taste. That said I have had their core IPA more than any other beer. Their special beers can be very, very good. It has been one of my few favourite breweries because they are local and some of the people their are great.

Munching on a Deep Creek Brewing, Pontoon in a Monsoon IPA

Like a slightly less punchy Pirate Life IIPA.
    A very very good beer

Gone a little more budget this Christmas with Aldi's in house pale ale. At least I hope it'll be better than the Tooheys Extra Dry that usually shows up in my dad's fridge.

I filled two squealers and a growler yesterday from 10 Toes Brewery in Maroochydore. I hope I don't run out, because I can't bloody buy beer from anywhere today.
