    little creatures is good stuff.

if you're going to spend the dollars though, you may as well buy the euro stuff. hoegarden white or something similar, reall original european beer - before the emphasis was on producing beer that tastes more like water than beer!

Well pete and i have embarked on a beer tasting expedition....... to our local grape bottle-o

It has a huge range of beers and we thought we would try a new beer every week... just a six-pack as it would be our best chance to do so.

This weeks pick is Amstel, 4.7% , 1.3 standard drinks. Brewed by Amstel Brouwerij, Amsterdam, Holland.

    Blurb from back of bottle
"At Amstel we believe in focusing on the good things in life and leaving out what we don't need. Thats why we pure filter our beer to give you a freshening, clean and crisp taste fullstrength lager with a bonus of lower calories and carbs."

    First impressions.......
Well it kinda tastes like a corona but much, much smoother. In fact i think i could get used to this beer. It doesn't have a after taste at all.

Colour wise you would think it is a light beer, but with 4.7% i think it could be a little toxic.

Stay tuned for next weeks review

It was only a matter of time before we got a low carb beer here.

Hey Shaz, how much was the Amstel?

The low carb Pure Blondes have been my drink of choice for a fair while now. But I haven't tried this new one yet. Comparable price with the Blondes?

Robs family are dutch and one runs a cafe in their town. He had about 460 different beers in his fridges and on tap. And boy can they drink.

When some were over about 12 years ago we were heading out to watch robs brother play base ball 8am on a sunday morning. First question. Can we get a beer? And they found xxxx heavy was really just a light beer to them.

Personally I prefer beers from these regions as they are smoother with less aftertaste. Heiniken and Grolsch being the first 2 to come to mind.

I think it might be worth my while getting a carton.

That's an okay price for a six pack, but when you are buying six packs at a time instead of cartons, it will add up. I like the idea of trying different beers, but don't think I could justify the cost.

The Grape normally carry Budweiser Budvar-try it you will love it.

You're right though Andy you can only do this stuff on a once in while basis due to the cost, it builds up buying it piecemeal especially when it's premium beers.

I got a carton of the Hahn Super Dry, and I'm only halfway through and I'm over it. The Pure Blondes are much nicer
Had a 6 pack of the Tooheys Pils while I was in Coffs, and it wasn't bad.

Tried a new drop on the weekend - Rubbel Sexy Lager.

Belgian drop, not too bad either. Tastes like most other euro beers as far as i can tell. When you're done drinking, you can scratch off the young ladies' swimming cossie on the label. Fun for beer drinkers of all ages! 5% alcohol, so it's not just a flash in the pan type beer either.

    Pics to come!

How did you find this thread? Wouldn't it have been better to start a new one?

I ended up getting a carton of the Tooheys Pils. They're pretty good, although I can just taste those extra carbs that I'm not used to....

Not only did i do a search AP, but i found the RSL thread as well which reminded me about my little win on Friday night.

That Search function is gold! Why didn't you tell us about it earlier?!

Do you look at the similar threads section at the bottom of threads (not this one, as it's older)? There's some gold in some of those threads.

Appreciate that the nature of these pics, nor the amber fluid contained within, may not appeal to everyone, but sometimes you just have to be bigger than the occasion.
