Took advantage of Uncle Dan's special and nabbed a couple of 6 packs of the Jamaican beer Red Stripe. Very easy to drink and quite smooth. Also nabbed a mixed 6 pack. Didn't like Toohey's TED at all, the Toohey's New was ok.

Spotted some Bridge road saisons at dans today and picked them up quick smart. One of my favourite styles of beer but unfortunately rarley find any. The beer was quite refreshing and a great example of the Belgian style.

Plenty of great beers at cheap prices, especially in Bratislava.

Those aren’t micro brewers unfortunately. Cricketer’s Arms is Asahi, and Yenda is Coca Cola.

There’s definitely some lagers to be had by the Brisbane independents though. Newstead has the Ballymore, and Ballistic has Dirty Word, for starters.

Had a Hope Draught this arvo on tap at the Macquarie Hotel in Liverpool (only a few places in and around the Sydney metro area where it is on tap)

I wasn't aware that the Hope Estate had a brewery, but looking at their website it appears that they do a few different drops (IPA, pilsener, Munich lager, etc).

Pretty decent drop with a somewhat distinct honey flavour.

Ok, I've definitely seen Yenda described as a micro brewer. Mistakenly upon further inspection.

I'll keep my eye out for those two mate.

This is the deception that the big boys try on beer drinkers. There is a new logo for independent brewers now, but I’m not sure on the exact criteria, or when it will be widely used.

FWIW Pirate Life is owned by SAB Miller (CUB) now, but they are still currently producing good beers.

Hopefully pirate life dont change anything due to new ownership, guess we will have to wait and see as the big boys are more concerned about profit than product. Yenda has always been average at best, just another example of big companies trying to cash in on the craft brewing scene.

The Ballymore isn't great. But I am not sure if that is because Newstead missed the mark or because it is a lager. Although I did spent a whole night drinking it at their Milton Bar a few months ago when they first launched it for the Reds. And I had yet another one today at Tap House at Bulimba and the first half was easy to drink (albeit flavourless) while it was bitterly cold but as the chill left the beer and the flavour came through I struggled to finish the second half. I left the rest sitting there.

I'll probably keep giving it a few more goes but their Session Ale is still my go-to light Sunday beer-in-the-sun beverage.

Maybe I just don't like lagers.

What would you guys recommend for someone looking for a change from James Boags/Heineken/Becks?
Any good craft beers in a similar style?

At $45 standard price for a slab of the Crisp Lager i find them ok. I'd had worse beers that cost a lot more.

I’m not going to convince you to keep drinking lagers.

I’m not a lager drinker, but on the Gold Coast both Black Hops and Balter make pilsners, which is a form of lager.

Drinking a Founders KBA I got today. Definitely one of the best beers I have had, there is a reason it is constantly voted one of worlds best. All of the flavours are in perfect balance. At a price of about $20 per stubby its a expensive drink but worth it.

I’ve never had it, but KBS would be wasted on me, as I don’t like coffee.

My go to slab for average Saturday night drinking is now the German Pilsner Radeberger. First mouthfuls seemed bitter but that quickly dissipates and they went down smooth as smooth thereafter beer after beer. At $40 (small special at 1st) i don't think i'd find a more enjoyable beer for the money.
