    Default Bonnie Doon

I'm looking at joining somewhere in Sydney and am intrigued by BD. I have read all about the reno being done and it all looks good.

Any members here that can shed any more light on how long it will take for all the work to be complete? Or any info re the club in general?

    Cheers

They have an open day on Mondays. Maybe you could have a hit there and get more info by talking to people (members, pro, staff) on the day.

Quite a few years ago I was an Eastlake member and enjoyed quite a few Monday games there.

I have played a couple times on Mondays over the years. To be honest I would not join based on the current course. However, the redesign looks really good. I'm thinking something similar to The Lakes without the water will be the end product. The practice facility should be good as well, something lacking from many Sydney courses. It's 10 min from my house which is a bonus.

I'm a member at Eastlake so watching with interest at the works over the fence at the Doon.

Not sure of the truth in it (and hopefully there is someone here that can confirm) but we noticed that work seems to have slowed somewhat at BD and I was told the other day that the water boad is playing hard ball and have brought a halt to the works, seeking soil analysis on all the fill that has been bought in??

As I say not sure of the total truth to this, but if it is the case, things could take a little longer then originally thought?

That doesn't sound good. I just saw a video they put up on twitter showing how the work was coming along and how they tweak things as they see it. Seems to be going well.

My name is Nick Bowles. I am the General Manager at Bonnie Doon. I thought I would comment on the above post by wazandnic regarding our course development.

Work has certainly not slowed down and we have experienced no problems at all in our dealings with Sydney Water. In fact, they are very enthusiastic and supportive of the work we are doing.

Shaping on two of the new holes has been completed and grassing has commenced. This includes the par 3 6th hole which can be seen from the 3rd (?) hole at Eastlake. We are still on track to open the seven new holes and the practice facility on the 31st March 2012.

If anyone requires any information about the course development, my contact details are on our website; www.bdgc.com.au . Also on the website are detailed plans of the new holes, the course masterplan and some youtube video updates on the course development.

    Hey Nick,

Welcome and thanks for posting and clarifying. Indeed during last weeks round I did notice again that things seemed to be moving along, and some good shaping starting to take place.

As I say my info came from word of mouth and I wasn't really sure how reliable that was, but at least now I can update my playing partners next time I get out for a hit.

    Cheers,
    Waz

I was at Bonnie Doon Sat afternoon, the section being developed looks well entrenched in ground works.

It is a large parcel of land they are working on.

I enjoy Bonnie doon, and look forward to playing it when finished (hopefully the greens arnt being renovated!)

    Reviving an old thread....

I still haven't pulled the trigger on joining, been busy and away. Looks like I will be heading in this week to join.

Anybody here joined recently or current members have anything to add about the course and club?

Again from over the fence, the works at the Doon look awesome. Finished several holes and are part way through another couple of holes. They have opened it up a lot. Word from Mich Clayton via twitter is the course will be easier but more fun and more options off the tee, etc. than before. I think a lot of courses would do well to take this approach.

I seriously considered joining there in Jan this year as over Xmas our course was utterly disgraceful in condition due to lack of water, (which is an ongoing issue).
Only issue was the joining fee, around $8k from memory, subs are not a problem for me, just over a touch what I'm paying now.
If your under 40, it's cheaper again.
I live 5 mins walk to the course so would have been ideal.
I have played there numerous times and always enjoyed it, always in mint condition.
New layout looks great as well....

Ive played there once since the new holes were opened. At present it is like 3 different courses. The new Clayton holes, the old original holes and the ones that were re-done a while back (10-14?). It was a bit strange. New holes were cool, although a few crazy green complexes with extreme humps ala Barnbougle.
I would join based on the course that will eventually be finished.

I am just under 40 so I am thinking of the 5 or 6 day membership. $4k or $6k ish joining fees. Think it is worth it. I am less than 10 min drive away.

Aren't you at Kogs? I was a member years ago there when there was a new course coming (B.S.). Played many a time there.

    Yeh I'm still @ Kogarah.
    New course coming, slowly.
Looks like it will most likely be all over the southern side of the M5

    he he...

I think in a lot of cases, it would likely speed up play at most courses and that combined with people having more fun would likely help increase memberships.

Just my random thoughts of course...

I'm going to really consider this. What are comp fees and I assume practice facility/driving range is free to members?
