I went to the course today and the Ping truck was there (better than a Mr Whippy van I reckon!!!)...what a stroke of luck, so I had to have a look at the G20 irons and the G20 drivers. A few mates were already there belting the drivers down the range and were buzzing about the new "tour" shafts that have replaced the Serrano's of the G15 ilk. I tried a few of them and the best seemed to be the 9.5 degree for me with the tour reg shaft, the stiff went OK too but did not feel right. A round on the course with both would have been nice, nothing like comparing them on the golf battlefield.
Adam from Ping did not have a launch monitor their either. We did send one of the guys with a GPS and a mobile down the end of the range so we could compare our old drivers to the G20's. My overall carry improved but it was on the range and with range balls, so no real proof there.
So I have a dilema... I had a demo day last week with Paul Jenner (2nd one actually) and really liked the 910 D3 with the after market 70g kail'li shaft. So now "to Ping or not to Ping, that is the question?"
I have had 2 x G15's and loved them, but these do feel different to the G15, not as "tinny" on the hit and some shots off centre seemed to deviate less than I expected. I think my mate from Drummonds said that they retail for $349 no matter which shaft you pick. They seem like pretty good value and another winner for Ping, we'll see....Stu
