Default Anyone else tried the new Ping G20 drivers yet?

I went to the course today and the Ping truck was there (better than a Mr Whippy van I reckon!!!)...what a stroke of luck, so I had to have a look at the G20 irons and the G20 drivers. A few mates were already there belting the drivers down the range and were buzzing about the new "tour" shafts that have replaced the Serrano's of the G15 ilk. I tried a few of them and the best seemed to be the 9.5 degree for me with the tour reg shaft, the stiff went OK too but did not feel right. A round on the course with both would have been nice, nothing like comparing them on the golf battlefield.

Adam from Ping did not have a launch monitor their either. We did send one of the guys with a GPS and a mobile down the end of the range so we could compare our old drivers to the G20's. My overall carry improved but it was on the range and with range balls, so no real proof there.

So I have a dilema... I had a demo day last week with Paul Jenner (2nd one actually) and really liked the 910 D3 with the after market 70g kail'li shaft. So now "to Ping or not to Ping, that is the question?"

I have had 2 x G15's and loved them, but these do feel different to the G15, not as "tinny" on the hit and some shots off centre seemed to deviate less than I expected. I think my mate from Drummonds said that they retail for $349 no matter which shaft you pick. They seem like pretty good value and another winner for Ping, we'll see....Stu

I think we're the problem JB. If we didn't buy the latest drivers, they wouldn't make them. Alas, I welcome each new driver release.

Not sure what you mean...what I DO like about the Pings is that they are NOT adjustable, the head is just glued in and that's it! I am known to be a "TAFU" (Tinkerer and Fu%$eruppera) and I would be tweaking an adjustable club all day!

He's just cranky after watching Parra.

They are bringing out a new line almost as quickly as TM, but not as quickly and not as many choices.

    Its not white is it?

I honestly cant tell too much difference between any of the 460cc max MOI driver heads...... My 910D2 plays similar to my old 909. that was similar to the 907D2.

    for me its mostly shaft......

I like my 910D2 as i can adjust the loft from 7.75 to 10.0. If i start hitting it poorly, or my flight changes, i can change loft or face angle.

Adjustabily was a big advancement for me, but i see little value in "newer" heads.

Hit one tonight at the range, with range rocks. 9.5° w/ tour stiff shaft. Felt solid... but really didn't feel much different to the G15... maybe tighter dispersion, but I think I would prob put that down more to the shaft.

Would like to try on course to get a real idea.

    Cheers,
    Waz

Is the G15 the only driver they've released in 2 years ? I noticed the i15 driver is pretty cheap too. The G20 irons look cheap.

I believe the G15 and i15 were released at the same time, the only other driver they have released since was the K15, which replaced the G15 Draw, and it does't look like they are replacing it yet.

It's strange that they haven't released any i15 replacements, driver or iron, i did read a rumour that it won't be until next year, and I won't be surprised if they drop the i15 driver.

K15 range replaced the Raptures. All Ping stuff has been on a 2 year cycle, however they have slowly added extra ranges as they moved production to China. Added Rapture range first and lately the Ansers.

Just got back from a Ping demo at lunchtime at St Micks G.C
So i went there to get my lies/lofts checked on my i15's i got from 3od as i'm hitting the 3,4,5's very high compared to my 13's and yes shafts are diff so.......
I have the stock AWT Stiff shafts, these are based on PX so longer clubs fly higher etc..... got on the L.M and all good, getting them "Tour Lofted" which in Pings terms, delofting a touch.
Will try b4 i change lie angle as well.
    ANYWAY.......
So my coach was there as he suggested the session, and he gives me their new driver?
First was a 10.5* with Tour Reg (the stock shaft), high and left but LONG.......
Then he gives me a 9.5, Tour Stiff (the stock shaft), and WHOOOOO............
Ive never had/been into Ping drivers purely for the reshafting issue of .350 hosels (i know chuck a shim in you lasy bastard)!
But i highly recommend trying them, in fact im listing/ebaying my 910 soon, will try a G20 soon ( as well as my R11 when it gets here)
Sit pretty square, and great silver colour, like the old isi-t's?
The shafts are Counterbalanced (little old school) but made by UST so not rubbish, good stock shaft IMO.

Disclaimer, im a chopper so what would i know!!!!
